Ok, and what about only 6bit color issue LCDs at certain iMacs?

They are coming. I'm seeing large clearance sales from local Apple vendors. Penryn just made it to the mobile market in January and Apple will probably be using the new Montevina platform that is going to replace the Santa Rosa design that the current iMacs use.

Unfortunately, we won't see Montevina till august/september.

iMacs are "confirmed":

They are released, but still lacking a matte screen option. Fuck you Steve!

I'm not sure if I shall or shall not buy it, though.

Not a real "upgrade", kinda like the last revision to the Macbook Pro a couple months back. A nice spec bump though, which was a bit overdue.

We won't see truly new iMacs until later this year, probably about October. After Intel ships their next iteration of CPUs in September.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for a matte screen on an iMac. Hopefully Apple will be integrating Blu-Ray drives this fall.

All they seem to do is trying to make customers switch to mac pros / macbook pros. I guess matte screens are dead in their consumer line because of this behavior. I know some guys who even switched to macbook pros because they didn't release an iMac spec bump for so long. They try everything.

I have to go with the iMac as it is the best bang for the buck. And the 2.8 GHz is way enough for me. Maybe I can set it up that I edit on another monitor and use the 24" just for tool-palettes. Would that be possible?

Why don't you just put the machine in a room that you won't have issues, maybe invest in some black curtains or something.
And yes Dual monitors is possible with the imac.

4 * 2400 Ghz Intel 6600 - 150€
Nvidia Geforce 8800GT 150€
4GB RAM ~50€
750GB Harddisk ~100€
Mainboard ~75€, raid, USB 2.0, 7.1 Audio, G-Ethernet usw.

525€ - for almost the double processor and graphics and disk performance.
Add a 24 LCD (or a 30, the buget is free) and a case.

If one wants to pay double the price for half the performance... go ahead.

apple has nice systems (The 8 core Intel Xeon etc), the imac however is not a good offer.

The imac is a beautiful computer with really nice performance quite frankly I don't really care how cheap you can slap together your generic box, which by the way isn't even a very well thought out comparison.

And what do you edit with laguun, Adobe Premiere? Part of the reason to buy an iMac for me is to not bother about technical issues. I wouldn't even have the knowledge for it. I want spend my time on other things. I won't get the ram from Apple though and buy it over my sister, who is a student.
