Can I trade in 2 Reds and get a $35K rebate on the Epic?

This will effect buying between now and shipping of EPIC.

Another thing that may effect everyone's buying pattern is stuff like the ET Breakout box, cheese plates and Red bottom plate (rip).....hope the length is the only dimension changing otherwise side handles will be forgotten. I'd expect the top mounts to be redundant (maybe not) if not bought back by Red.

Can I trade in 2 Red Ones, three large bags full of half-used 9 volt batteries, and an old Kay banjo for the full 40k? ;)

Sounds like a smart boy like you should hang on to that banjo so you got somethin to go with that tobaccy chawin' boy.

This question was asked before and I believe Jim did not take it seriously..

I think one RED and the rest in cash would do the trick...

In all seriousness, Dave, Red's going to be taking a big hit on all the trade-ins. Even if they refurbish them and resell them, it will be for thousands less than the full retail price.

I feel you on the accessory dilemma. I figure I'll get a good year on the parts you mention before I upgrade to the Epic, and I expect there will be a strong resale market for all good Red One accessories. So the total cost per month of use won't be much. All the expensive stuff (glass, support, etc) will move on over to the Epic.

I'm thinking as I got another Red coming, it took the worry out of buying extra accessories because with another Red for either multi camera shoot, spare etc all additional parts could be used on that or it could be used as a standby spare. Nothin new there.
Now I thinking that if Epic is the full biscuit, i'll get it...but the second Red One now loses it's full backup status unless upgrading the sensor gives you better dynamic range/noise and if it does then it's going to be interesting because...what will the benefits be from Epic over Red One. To then gear up to an Epic based setup is gonna mean double cost plus double redundancies if you want the same setup you had with the Red One.

ps: just read your post adaml

why not?.. because the red project has been spread in more directions than promised before.. seems to me fair enough..

We know there will be a sensor upgrade available for R1 in the future, I`m just a little curious why the processing power/entire dsp board etc can`t be upgraded too, which is unlikely considering the trade-in-4-epic being offered (which is great btw). This might allow 60fps@4k, or 4.5k at 24fps etc.
In short I can`t see why an R1 can`t BE an EPIC in terms of image quality given the chance to upgrade (Its a bigger BOX), that would truly make obselete a little more obselete.

i was told only one ( Red one) trade in per epic ...
but you could trade in two Red ones for TWO Epic's !!

is the offer to trade in Red One for Epic extended indefinitely for Red One owners or only for a period of time?

I guess it's indefinitely since they are trying to make the term obsolete no longer applicable to their customers..please correct me if i am wrong.
