There have been many questions asked on this board where the answer has been..... Wait until NAB.
Some of these questions of course will be answered in specification sheets, operating hand outs and manuals.
Many of these questions will need to be asked of one of the RED Team who is knowledgeable regarding that question.
Last year RED sold over 1000 cameras which did not exist. This year with a camera working in the booth, and 4projector, RED should sell in excess of 2000 more. The Booth will be a madhouse, People will be shoulder to shoulder.
Would it be possible to arrange the questions of reservation holders by type ie:
Mechanical questions
Operating questions
workflow questions.
Data Management questions
Post production questions
Accessory questions
third party development questions
(Maybe a better breakout of types? Maybe more types? Maybe the breakout should be by RED team members?)
Could you have a room like the edit sample room, which was quiet and off the floor at the 2006 NAB where the first 1500approx. reservation holders could go at assigned times and days to meet with an expert who could answer their specific type of question?

Failing that, I think it might be interesting to even just have a meeting amongst redusers and talk through some things after the first day of the booth.
I am planning on using my NAB time mainly to figure out which accessories I really need to buy at first. I am especially torn among the various on camera flash varieties.

Maybe shoot the entire meeting - with what camera?

I can imagine there is a little frustration out there. But I think we all suffer from the "watched pot" syndrome. While it's cool to be involved in the process it can become a little tough when we KNOW the answers are out there, but we just can't seem to get to them. Furthermore, to be told the answers are coming to NAB a place we KNOW is not set up for "quality time" it can be nerve wracking.
But... The answers will be there, and I would expect more than we could want. Jim and the boys have hung everything but their privates (And perhaps those too) on NAB.. They have said to the world, "our camera will be there WORKING and we will ship shortly after". The time for "wait until" will be over and they will have a LOT of data and things to share at that time.
TJ I am betting they don't WANT you to have to ask that many questions. If you do it means there's something wrong with their paperwork. Manuals, brochures, workflows, etc will all be there and on the website on that fateful day. To put it simply, they have to be. It's zero hour.
I would not worry guys. The answers are coming. The camera is coming. Exactly three weeks from now, REDteam will show all it's got to the world.
That said, I would prefer NOT A PEEP from our boys until NAB.. I can only imagine the work they are pushing right now.. I'd rather get it all at once perfectly in three weeks than for them to be wasteing time on the boards today.
IMHO

Perhaps Red should put together a FAQ for the questions like...
--Is this camera for real? (Not being sarcastic here, but many people are asking this.)
--4K editing is not realistic so what's the point in buying Red? / Why would I need a 4K camera? (The answer probably being that Red is a good HD camera too.)
--Workflow Qs
--Pricing
--How will I archive the footage
--Items on TJ's list.
etc. etc.

Scheduled reservation holder briefings would be most appreciated.
TJ is not exaggerating when using the term madhouse. Given the 'No info to NAB policy' and the booth being in the same vicinity as Apple, it will be crazy.
It was mad in 2006 when Red had nothing to say, in 2007 they have everything to tell us.
Even if a pdf faq pack was issued to Redcore prior to NAB at least we could then try and nail down what more we need to know.
As for the 'Is the camera real?' I get that question every other day.
I caught up with the Fujinon rep for our region and asked him were Fujinon considering PL mount lenses for the Red camera? He laughed. My response was, 'Don't you think with pre-orders of 1500 cameras that there may be an opportunity for your company here?'

I agree.
Now I wonder if there would be any place in Vegas where redusers could meet and consume a refreshing alcoholic beverage?

i´m sure there are users familiar with las vegas - they could choose a location, if it costs anything we should be able to finance it on a very easy way (everybody pays 20 $ for example..). If there is no chance to get the red people with time on the booth we should try to organize a meeting.

Reluctantly Jay, i think you summed it all up nicely.
Apart from the absolute mayhem on this forum during and just after NAB when we are all trying to cram as much info as possible into our brains, but somehow unable to keep pace with the sheer volume of posts.
The mad scientist (j Jannard) is going to wreak havoc with this forum soon enough, prepare yourself, get ready:waaa:
