Hi Everyone..
Just wanted to pass this tip along:
If you are grading a shot in Color, you can quickly check the grade against your source DPX frames, before rendering (baking in) the changes.
You can simply export a 3DLUT from Color by doing the following menu command: "File->Export->Display LUT.."
Choose a location to save the file. This creates a 3DLUT file. We can take this, and command Glue Tools CineonDPX Pro to display the footage using this LUT.
With Final Cut Pro, you can import your existing footage, and use the new LUT with it. To do this, you can open the Sequence by right (or Control) clicking in the browser window, and selecting "Import->Glue Tools DPX Sequence Import...".
Once the panel is open, you will want to select the newly created 3D LUT file from Color. Change the "Conversion" Popup Menu, from Automatic to "Color 3DLUT". Below the Popup menu, is the "Select 3DLUT" button. Click on this to navigate to the location of your LUT file. Select your Color LUT, by click on the appropriate file with the ".mga" extension.
Now you can select your DPX sequence and click load. You will notice that when the clip in loaded into FCP's project, the clips' "Master Comment 1" will contain the path to the lut file, for future reference.
You can drag the clip into the Viewer Slug for Canvas windows to playback your color corrected footage. If you don't like the results, you can quickly go back into Color, make a change, and save a new 3D LUT. No additional rendering needed.
To turn the LUT usage off, you can change the Conversion back to Automatic, in the System Preferences/CineonDPX pane.
Hope this helps.
