View Full Version : RED users in and around Ohio

Hey there, I'm new to this forum but I wanted to see how many RED owners there are in Ohio and the surrounding states. I co-own a new small post and vfx house in Ohio and we are trying to figure out how much RED specific work there might be as we setup our RED based workflow and pipeline.

I haven't been to Ohio, but i'd consider it as a nearby state.

And so it seems Ohio is cyan all over. A shame, really. I'd get one if I could, but I can't, so I won't. Oh well.

I'm getting ready to purchase a package. I know that Jeff Barklage owns a couple bodies in Cincinnati. There was a producer in Columbus who owned one of the early builds very briefly, but then sold it after not wanting to deal with sound issues. I too am curious about owners in Ohio. I live in Columbus for the next year, and my family is in Cleveland so I'm there frequently.

A good friend of mine, Andrew von Ehrenkrook, is a producer and RED fan in Mansfield, OH.
He shot his first RED feature in April and can't say enough good things about it. I'm sure on future projects when a little more money is available, he would be more than happy to send out the post workflow to a local post house.
If you contact him now, he may be interested in talking about 4K finishing options. Send him an email at email@example.com and tell him I sent you.
He also has some light fx and compositing work to do and I'm not sure what the status is since I last checked. There's not much post budget so he was planning on doing it himself with the Motion suite, but he may be interested in other options.

I have 2 x Red One camera packages in Cincy...have had my first one for over a year & a half.
Having gone from 98% of my shooting on 35mm film, to 92% now on Red, I see this is the way of the future. Just finished my 107th shoot on Red :-)
Most out of state, but a lot still in state.
My findings: Cincy post houses are very RED friendly.
Columbus seems to be sort of confused & I've lost several shoots due to post production houses advising against RED shooting due to their unfamiliarity with Red work flow.
Northern Ohio: Cleveland, Akron & Toledo are all on board.
So, we we need to work on the central city of the state.
Good luck in your endevours.

I know this thread was started years ago and that it's been a long, long time since someone's added to it, but it seems to me, at least in my experience, that there are very few Red Owners, outside of a single rental house that I know of, in the Cincinnati area. Which totally sucks.
Moved from LA in 2002 before the birth of Red. Bad mistake? Hmmmm...perhaps.
