I don't know how valuable it would be, but it sounds logical to me so I will offer it up as a clay pidgen for Graeme and Co. to shoot down at their leasure as it may be totally unneccessary or even already a part of the process and I don't know.
Since sensors are essentially organic, does it make sense to have a "signature" taken in the factory: Standard lens, standard chart, standard distance, to Pixel accurate position (or electronically adjusted to line up) and keep some sort of Delta between what is captured VS what is expected and store that Delta as a signature on the camera?
It may help, when trying to render standard colors in RGB mode or later when trying to sync the color from different cameras, if the software could factor the camera's signature into the proper rendering of the color as offsets.
Essentially saying, "hey, whenever you use this camera, the following micro adjustments should be made to account for the normal variance in the manufacturing process."
