I have a helicopter shoot coming up and was wonder what people are recording too.

I'd like to avoid CF as the short record times are problematic and I don't want to land every 4 minutes.

I recorded to CF - no problem

Had a DIT to handle the cards.

Have another couple of heli shoots coming up and expect to follow the same route. I think untill the SSD thingy is ready, this is the only safe way to go...

Hi Gunleik

How did you managed changing cards? Land and change?

Nope. Did it in air. Flew for an hour straight, filmed through the door handheld. Filmed 40 minutes.

The next shots are with gyros, though...

Rory,

I take it you using a nose or bubble mount if you can't get to the cards in flight. Any chance you could get your shot with a Tyler mount out the side?

You could probably go Red Drive with a Gyro stabilised mount like a Wescam or Space cam. Still iffy though, you will probably get some dropped frames.

The Red Drive will work fine. Just make sure it is at least 3" away from the gyromotors because they do generate a magnetic field than can effect the drives.

Spacecam has it solved. No dropped frames.

Same but different question here;

next week I'll be shooting a spec with a Flighthead in a heli (inside, so not a bubble, I still have to operate the swing/shift, to make things even more easy ;-) . The Flighthead op said if it will start up the gyros it will shake quiet violently , so the Reddrive will have difficulties, however if i power up the camera when the gyros will be up speed will the drives be ok, right ? I will take CF cards as well but it will be worthwile to use the drive for long takes.

Can you give us details of incidents where the above phenomena was experienced with RED drives?
