Its hard to tell from that picture which monitor are you using? Hi Michael, I did some research on monitors and everyone seemed to point at Dell monitors, because they are inexpensive and share the same panels as Apple, etc. In the end I kept it simple and experimented with the one I could find locally that had the fastest response time (2ms) and the most suitable size for the alu-briefcase: It's a Samsung 19" widescreen syncmaster 931BW. I didn't want to be too picky about calibration controls, since the HDMI image is pre-processed RGB and what is being recorded is something else in RAW. However, the contrast, framing and tones are accurate and it's a pleasant tool to work with. For grading we use our 23" Sony LMD230W at the edit studio that is a proper production monitor, but not a very practical one to travel around with. We would take the 23" to local jobs if requested by the D.P.

Nice. What focus gears are you using on the lenses?

Thanks Nils.
They are solid aluminum focus gears. They were custom-made four years ago, when preparing a lens kit for the mini35. I think the person who made them is still around. If I remember well you just send the diameter plus $100 and he sends the ready ring back.

Do you happen to remember his/her name/e-mail/address?

Are those Contax lenses? Which mount are you using? And what are your experiences?

(And if you ever need a 2nd camera in the Canary Islands, let me know :) )

Martin,

Regarding the gears, I actually would like some new ones of those, but haven't been able to find any details of the person who made them.

Regarding the Contax lenses, they're great! Beautiful picture (Zeiss glass, image comparable to Superspeeds), very light. Significantly shorter movement for the focus and obviously not as rock solid as PL mount lenses. Everyone who's used them, would use them again. I made the mount myself, since we wanted to continue using those lenses.

Right now we don't really need a 2nd Camera, but you're welcome to visit us in the Canaries anytime if it gets too cold in Norway.

Best wishes, Daniel.
