I noticed that on the RED User menu page earlier, where it lists who has a birthday today. I sent him a "Happy Birthday" private message a few hours ago.
Great guy...

I am absolutely blown away. Steve, I saw your pm after my dinner with the family and I was completely stoked to hear from you and it sure meant alot to me. Sorry that I could not respond quickly, but I have this great new problem called work! This really cranked my birthday to eleven for me for so many reasons and now this! Emanuel, Jo, Vanda (and company!), Steve Gibby and Lakeview ( I will discover your true identity..haha-- he now claims to be someone named ... Emanuel-- but I think he is trying to confuse me) I want to sincerely thank you for the happy birthday love.
This community means alot to me on many different fronts. I could list the rollcall of members here, but I can assure you that if you post on a semi-regular basis I have learned something from you or have been inspired to new povs or tangents. Except of course for Finner, screw the tape measure I am racking off the monitor to spite you:bleh: - ok that was full of shit! Oh and for some guy named Mike the Beginner, you have always asked some damn good questions and you will pour your soul into that camera. For those that wonder why I don't post on more technical issues or my experience with varicams, f900 series, etc. I lost five years of my career to an accident and the most inept (by design to mitigate cost) system to deal with it. So as I get my camera chi back amongst other skillsets, I very passionate, I know what it is like to loose what you love, but each of you here as well as the RED TEAM has served in some form of bringing me back to the living in terms of craft, business, creativity and inspiration.
Oh, I am now official, I opened my business account, articles of incorp. and dropped in enough checks to pay for the camera. Not bad since december first after a five year immobile layoff and all done on a ten year old canon xl1 and one of best friend's dvx-100-- I cannot say enough about how the RED Project...what it has done to keep me fighting.. this not fan boyism... If live to be behind the camera and then it stops for five years, while you are repeatedly told, "to just get over it" or "it's in your head" etc. what is left in a small life can become the definition of a hopeless situation. Never Again.
Thanks guys for making my 38th birthday one to really reflect and celebrate-- things are finally coming together on all fronts. I had really missed the process and people, my RED is not here yet and it has become an amazing networking tool, "so like what I did with the dv huh--can you image if we brought this to xyz?"
E. thank you again for being a really great friend and Gibby for your sage advice. Jim, thank you for not being satisfied and building something that I will be able to use to re-build my life and career. A camera that could have me as the weakest link in the image chain. Which means it's all down to me and my collective skill sets and listening to everyone here, for the first time in years I feel great about the challenge.
Cheers
Andrew Benz

acehole, I am just dying to know if your bags are packed yet for cali? I have a strong feeling you would very well, as you are now of course. I agree 28 is my goal for next year, having a chance to own this camera will no doubt turn back the clock and I will make the most of my lead time.
Yeah! Happy Birthday Andrew "Mercedes" Benz.
Ha! Ocular it is funny you should mention this, when people ask how my last name is spelled I say smiling," Like the car I cannot afford" Then when they see what I drive, they cannot help but laugh at my honesty. Yeah, I paid a hundred bucks for it, runs great. Someone said yesterday, damn you really are committed to do what it takes to buy that camera! I tell them that I will have no problem generating the funds with that camera or working out a trade for my work needs--does not work in reverse. Thank you for the birthday wishes-- gotta go edit now.:w00t:
