Does anybody know how many kind of brand and standard are there now?

I'm ready for my RED this month and I would like to have the information about CF card's maker, size, loading speed, etc.

Is there any information site or recommendation?

Thanks.

Can you be more clear about what information you are looking for?

Just buy them from RED. It might cost $5 more, but it'll be supported.

Red fully checks them out to make sure they meet specs, read write speed, etc.. Red rejects quite a bundle of CF cards. I suggest buying from Red, even if you might save $5-$10 card. Believe me, you do not want brand name brand CF cards failing. - so you can save $5? I ain't worth it man! Buy from Red.

I would like to shoot movies with 4K. Now I know that there is 8GB CF card but I'm afraid that it's too small that I've to prepare lots of it.

Is there any better choice like 16GB or 32GB? The fast the better.

Yes there is 16GB and 32 GB 133x card on the market. But again, you're asking for a lot of pain with little possibility of a gain. Just stick with Red's.

If RED haven't made other sizes available, I'll bet that's because they're not satisfied with what they see.

what about the Delkin 16gb UDMA (305x)?

or this?

They seem to possess the specs as I understand it - not sure if I'd like to be a guinea pig mind you.

16GB cards and build 16 will make RedOne filmmaking very close to 35mm...

16 IS the magic number

word I got from Red is the CF cards are 300x so the Delkin should work... the other card I think (am hoping) will work is the lexar 8GB UDMA 300X CompactFlash. I'm still waiting for my camera so I can't test either of these. But it strikes me that CF cards are basically equivalent to film/video stock and it is not practical that stock is only available from one source, especially if it is several thousand miles away - I'm in the uk.... so I hope these cards and others will work when my camera gets to me...

I believe somewhere someone from RED said the Delkin doesn't work. The Lexar cards are supposed to work, and I hope they do as I just bought 4 of them!

thanks for the reply... it would be good to get confirmation if you can when you test your lexar cards as I plan to buy some after my camera arrives

So.....there is no 16GB CF card for RED so far, right?

Sounds like I can only wait for it. Anyway, thanks for all repliers. :)

You'll regret that more than you think.

Actually the 8GB is pretty sweet for quite some uses...

I had one RED card failure. Within 4 days a new card arrived (via FedEx in germany!) from Red. On their money. That should be worth something.

Or do you want to go into discussions with some blokey from a vendor in El Cheapo about proper card speeds?

Cheers,
Jochen

What about the Transcend 16GB? It's 300x and is $168 vs. $550 from the Red Store. Has it been tested?

Sandisk just announced a 32GB CF Extreme III out this October; but it is only 200x.
