Will red team have a downloadable manual available once NAB is underway?
It may be a difficult call given the short time table and knowing that red will want the user manual to be as complete and accurate as possible. With that in mind perhaps a beta manual just for reservation holder could be sent by email to all reservation holders. Some of us will want to know even the most basic instructions. The sooner we get the manual the sooner we can start learnng.

I hope even non-reservation holders like myself can read it. A man can dream, can't he?

Slowly I get the bad feeling that everything gets split into camps of people who have a reservation and those who ( for multiple reasons ) donīt.
I mean most of the people who are going to use the camera will ( at least at the beginning ) rent it, not own, so how on earth are those people ( including me ) going to get the manuals for prep ? Rental companies also get only one manual per camera but will surely face a huge demand of fixed rentals and an even bigger amount of people in waiting lists who at least need some technical literature.

I'd be kinda surprised if the manual was not made available for everyone to download. That said, the camera is not even out yet so it's a pretty normal assumption there's not going be a downloadable manual for an unreleased camera. :)

I would love to see a hyper text redakipa version - one that is on-line that the users can update - Of course with RED approval....so many smart people out their - lets put all the brain power to work.

I can't think of one camera manufacture that I was not able to order a shop or operational manual from. The shop manuals included exploded views of every piece in the camera and every other related item. (magazines, motors, eyepieces etc.) I would hope RED would follow suit.

Probably you are thinking of professional gear, but at least up until several years ago, Canon did not release any service manuals to any of their video cameras. As far as I know that is still true. The user manuals are available, of course.

Another vote to make to manual available as a PDF file.

I do most of my work on rented cameras, and I don't always get to decide which camera we use. PDF manuals are extremely convenient for me when at times I don't get to touch the camera until the day of the shoot. I hold a grudge against some less-than-cooperative manufacturers for not making their manuals more easilly available! What do they think will happen if I have the manual without purchasing the camera?! It's not like Im going to construct my own...
Yes, please, when it's ready, make the manual a pdf!

An online manual with Jim's 24Hr cell# on Page 1 would be fantastic.:)

From a business perspective, it would be a mistake for them to release a manual until delivery of the camera. I'm sure things are still changing as we speak, and they will probably try to avoid having documentation of a feature that changes, because someone will say "In the manual it says you can do this".
Once it's released, I would think you will have a hard copy that comes with the camera, a downloadable PDF, and we had discussed with Jim in an earlier thread about tutorial videos you can download and even put on an iPod. I think there will be a good amount of information made available to both reservation holders and everyone else.

The only thing that I could foresee delaying the release of the manual is the lowered feature count for the first ~100 cameras. That said, the guys have always stated that the camera will ship with a manual. Manuals are publicly available things. I'm not concerned... just wait until the camera ships. Maybe camera 6.
