I love crap like this!! I'm sure there will be more spoilers and Jim will not like that.. Me I LOVE IT... Why? Cause all "big deals" get secrets cracked.. It's one way to know you have people's interest..

Understand I am not supporting anything illegal.. I am just a fan who LOVES "secret" information.

See ya!

Well, they haven't disclosed anything except that there's something to be disclosed, and not until NAB! :innocent:

We know they know, but we don't know what they know...:w00t:

Rodney Charters is an especially interesting choice given the fact that he tested the JVC HDV camera with a couple of those 35mm lens adapters on the set of 24.

I won't be surprised if he comes in with a rave review on Red One especially if the latitude claims turn out to be true. After all, we already know its sharp as hell so that's the only thing hanging out there.

I am about to crap my pants waiting for NAB.

I watched mondays episode last night in full 1080 and I kid you not--i was thinking to myself that somehow it looked sharper and richer than normal... Hmmm...

That would be kind of difficult. Fox is 720p.

HUH? i thought the cable distribution sets the parameters, not the network...

No, my friend, you are sadly mistaken. I can instantly tell the difference in my TV as I set it to show 720p without stretching. Fox in Los Angeles is full 1080 for all the big shows including 24. Some big shows on other networks (Extreme makeover Home edition) are 720 but 24 is definately 1080.

My projector shows 1080/60i for 24. That said, this show would definitely reveal how well the RED stands up in low light. 24 has been getting darker and darker as the seasons go.

Fox is 720p, but the signal gets converted to 1080i when it reaches your TV.
I don't know if it's the set top box or the local station or the cable companies facilities that do it.

24 definatly does a 1080 output...film to 1080 for sure!

According to IMDB, Rodney Charters's Nickname is "Prince of Darkness" - I assume in a good way!

We tried to work the HVX into that JVC test on 24 but Showreel was being a real pain in the ass. I wouldn't be surprised if this is just them assuming they'll get an early owner to cooperate. If anyone at Showreel contacts you avoid them unless they at least provide full insurance (which they would'nt last time) and incude your name in the article so that at least you can have some free press. Rodney is a fantastic DP and I'd love to see what he can do with the Red but it's not worth risking your investment for someone elses gain.

Nope. Your fox may be 720, but mine is definately 1080. I know the difference of receiving 720 or 1080 as my TV always letterboxes 720 (the way I set it up). Honestly I am a super geek (CTO for a global company) and this is stuff I really know about.

Also, for reference, American Idol is definately live 1080--I can definately see the difference.

Fox, ABC and ESPN all originate 720P. At least that is what they told me when I complained about image quality.

Eric,
Besides old Scratch himself, "Prince of Darkness" is reserved for Lucas electricals.

Coburn,

I just knew you smelled like the type who would drive a British car. :shiftyph34r:

Cars:
2 Triumph TR3s
2 MGAs
1 MGBGT
1 Hillman Minx
1 Jag XJ-12 (the horror, the horror)!

Bikes:
3 Triumphs
2 BSAs
2 Nortons

Except for the Jag, these were in my younger years. My friends refered to it as a sickness. I may have been young and dumb, but I looked cool!

Thats Colburn not Coburn. Or as my old man use to say, "Nobody has knocked the "L" out of me yet".

Okay. I appologise. After doing a bit of research, I think you are right and Fox is shot at 720. However, my Los Angeles, Charter, cable company or fox affiliate is scaling the signal to 1080 before it gets to me.

The amazing one for me is American Idol that is either passed directly in Los Angeles as 1080 and sent out of the feed at 720 or just happens to scale very well.

I am very sorry for my tone and militant ignorance.

I have never missed an episode of 24...I think it is getting too dark and contrasty. Maybe they are just saving electricity.

What would really help that show is if they had a terrorist attack some where other than California I mean come on enough is enough.

Personally, I think they missed a golden opportunity to have this season take place mostly in China breaking Jack out. But then again, how would they be able to show all those shiny new Ford SUVs...

Yes, but imagine if Fox have given Red permission to screen 4k test material from the set of 24 at the Red NAB booth...

The Showreel article has been flagged for months, just the publication date has been moved:http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=78390&highlight=showreel

Maybe they will show some footage like that? I am sure Jim has some "cool buddies" who might make a 4K appearance.

Regarding the whole Fox 720P vs. 1080i, I read an article a while back that discussed the whole mess that is HD transmissions these days. Basically it is possible for the signal to be converted back and forth between the two resolutions up to 6 times (Yes, SIX times) before it reaches you... kind of scary.
