Would Red plus accessories fit in a 1600 or would I need to get something larger?

body alone fits in a 1560 nicely. (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1042&highlight=pelican+case)

I love searching...

with all the other goodies you have to carry as well. I would go with a 1650
it has wheels and plenty of padding

But it won't carry on an airplane. The 1510 (Camera+Batteries+drives) and a 1520 (Lenses+Accesories) may be the solution.

Will the Li-Ions not create a problem being taken on a plane anyway Evin? I'm sure the max is about 90Wh, and no more than 2 of them.

The Storm cases do look quite good and a bit cheaper (And possibly better made, I don't know, but they claim to be better on a number of features). Storm case equivilent (http://www.stormcase.com/StormCaseSizes/StormiM2500.htm) to Evin's suggestion (Good suggestion that by the way Evin, thanks).

I've never seen a screener look for the Li-Ion capacity, these are minimum wadge workers. But if so, put them in your check.

The Steadicam PowerCubes (basically, souped up IDX Endura 10s batteries) come with a little pamplet that quotes the TSA rule for Li-Ion batteries and shows that the PowerCubes meet the spec. I would think that other battery manufacturers might have that kind of info available for you to use in case a TSA agent balks.

Storyline my battery manufacturer doesn't provide that. Can you put up a link or upload a copy?

Your right about non carryon Evin, I was thinking general use.

for carry on I might go with the Portabrace smuggler.

1510 is too small, you wont even be able to shut the lid.

1560 lets you fit just the body and the 2 batteries just barely...

Do you have any dimensions of the camera please Jarred? Even just width, length and height would suffice, nothing technical.

Anybody knows if 1600 Pelican could be taken with you in to the airplane?

Guys,
I use Pelicans extensively for all my Underwater gear. One thing, they are damned heavy. My latest one is the 1650 which alone weighs in at around 15lbs, or half that which most airlines allow in their weight limits. I guess its more an issue for the clients seeing as these costs are built into the budget but nonetheless Pelicans are really heavy in themselves. Just a point.

Cheers,
Mark.
P.S What ever happened to the RED Case Design?

Andrew,

I have a 1560 for my HVX-200 kit right now and it just makes the size limit.

Thanks! Mark

So standard size for Carry-On Baggage is:
21.5 X 15.5 X 9
or
55cm X 40cm X 23cm
and
maximum weight 22lb or 10kg

This gives us 1550 almost there and 1510 just perfect.
But 1510 is almost 14lb

Will RED with bateries and EVF fit in 1510?

Lighter and slightly larger is the Storm im2720 (http://www.expeditionfilmpartners.com/products/p619.html). For carry-on, the im2500 is the best option (http://www.expeditionfilmpartners.com/products/p613.html) for body, charger and batts.

Just returned from a RED flypack gig in Hawaii. Here's a breakdown:

I carried on a smallish wheeled Porta-Brace hard case (1560 I think) for the camera, short zoom, battery mount and shoulder mount.

Also carried on a small backpack with MBPro laptop, CF cards, CF FW800 Reader, RedOne manual, personal items.

I checked a wheeled Pelican 1520 with 2x12" rods, 2x18" rods, 300mm lens in its shipping box, 3 RED batteries, Allen key set, handles, brackets, side rails, needle nose pliers to pull out CF cards & stubby screwdrivers.

Checked a suitcase with Red battery charger, 500GB hard drive, a few cables, clothing and personal items.

Thanks!
Looks like Storm at 5lb is the way to go for carry-on, what a difference in weight as compared to Pelican. I don intend to through this one around so no extra durability needed.

Has anyone indicated that they would be making RED ready cases - meaning the laser cut foam and such? I'm not a real crafty fellow.

This is totally cool!!
I like the GPS tracker for it:
http://www.surveillance-spy-cameras.com/small-gps-tracking-device.htm
or this
http://www.pimall.com/nais/gprslonglast.html
and one build in to the camera

Anybody in injection molding business picking up on this?

Just returned from a RED flypack gig in Hawaii.

Blair,

Are you going to be around SoCal between Oct. 5 and 10? We emailed each other a while back about the whole RED sprinter thing. I am heading down that way during those dates, and would love to meet you and share ideas for this digital truck. I will be putting mine together during November. I am guessing you are busy, but between Oct. 5 and 9, I would come to San Diego if that's where you'll be and you could meet.

The 1560 seems to be officially too big for carry-on (22.06" x 17.93" x 10.43" exterior dimensions). David and Blair, are you saying that you've had success slipping it through since it's so close to regulations? It seems a little risky to me, but if it consistently gets through, that extra space would be nice. Also, have either of you had any issues with the weight limit? I'm leaning toward the storm im2500 for the body and a couple accessories, with a larger case for the rest.
