I can't seem to find any mention of this so I am guessing I am the only one experiencing this problem, but in the off chance..... a little help????

Here is the deal; we shot some green screen stuff and are exporting it using RED Alert. I noticed a load of compression on the blue channel on all the exports.

I have traced the problem to the Matrix settings in RED Alert - when we turn them off we see no noise in the blue channel. Then the problem is without the Matrix settings turned on I am left with a desaturated green screen that is as much trouble to key as the noisy blue channel.

I have tried reinstalling RED Alert. I have tried RED Cine.

I am using a Intel Mac, OSX 10.5.2, RED Alert 1.56 BETA and QT 7.4.5

any thoughts????

Did you light daylight or tungsten? If it was tungsten, this would explain the noisy blue channel as you need to pull it up significantly to balance, and it's well known that blue is the weakest channel.

When you say compression on blue, do you mean in the form of noise?

It sounds like you are looking in the right place as my understanding is that "developing" the digital file is the most important stage in good keying.

Gunleik and Mike Seymour could tell you volumes about this, hopefully they will chime in.

aaahh... I should have said that I took one of these files into Mike's place and had a look on his laptop..... absolutely no compression on any channel.... So I have figured its something to do with my system, but have not been able to locate the cause.
