View Full Version : UK Import Duty for Red Camera?

We're due to receive our Red camera shortly and I'm wondering what import duty we'll face here in the UK.

I need to find out the right 10-digit commodity code (Taric) for the Red - I guess it's better I research this now ahead of delivery so I can argue my case if customs attempt to classify the camera incorrectly!

I also need to work out duty for the lens + various accesories.....

Any UK owners care to assist?

Many thanks

Best wishes

Scott

Have you checked with your Red representative about this?

Red has already shipped to the UK and, most likely, will be able to help you with your questions.

There are a couple of pages on here about UK import duty - i have them booked marked for when mine gets here.

Hope that can help.

Thanks for the information.

I've been digging around myself and it looks like a lens faces 6.7% import duty.

Now, the camera...this is a tricky one and it looks like it is open for negotiation. I would argue that the following code could apply:

8525800000 - Television cameras, digital cameras and video camera recorders.

This would appear to face 0% charge for import from US to UK.

Anyone argued the case for this one?

The LCD monitor looks like 14%...OUCH!!!

Still working my way through the others.

Best wishes

Yeah apparently we can do 0% on the camera body and accessories. It's just the lenses and the LCD that we get stung on.

Also don't forget that you will need to pay Lizzie 17.5% on top of EVERYTHING including the customs duty that you pay...

Oh well... at least we have NHS...

Hope we can go that route.

Video cameras = duty. Digital still cameras = no duty. Video cameras = (still) videotape. Digital still cameras = direct to CF (as RED).

Scott,

Talk to FedEx - they'll be sorting the duty out for you anyway and then they charge you for it.

As suggested, I'll talk with Fed Ex here in the UK and get their thoughts on the Red camera's Taric classification - I'm obviously going to push HARD on that 0% rate for the 8525800000 Taric- Television cameras, digital cameras and video camera recorders.

Will let you know how I get on.

Best wishes

It sometimes seems like a lottery what duty rates will be charged on imports to UK from US.

I can only tell you I was lucky and paid nothing for the import of two red cameras. Since then I have been paying duty on the various add-ons which came in later deliveries.
