Does anyone know if the on camera USB2 port has bus power. Currently with my HVX I dump the cards to a Lacie Rugged Drive in the field over the on camera firewire port. Unfortunately with the HVX it does not have bus power so the drive has be powered seperately, which is a pain if you are in the middle of the forest.
Bus power seems like it would be a handy option if you were shooting to one of the in camera flash options, with options to copy and verify the data to the drive.
Preferably I would like to be able to just transfer the flash data to the Red Drive through the camera. Of course this has already been discussed, and I'm sure we will learn the answer at NAB.

That's a great idea to implement. Not having to worry about powering the USB2 drive on location would be really handy. I vote for bus powered USB2 ports on RED One, if possible.

There is certainly going to be power on the Type A usb connector (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1119) if it's enough mA to power a drive or if it would be feasible to transfer data over the bus I don't know.

If it really serves a purpose to connect a drive to the camera USB, you could always put a small 12>5v inverter in the Usb drive, and connect it to one of the power outputs on the camera. Thats a $1 part, if you know how to solder.

Thanks Anders. I'm no good at soldering but I know plenty of guitar pedal geeks that do know how.
