View Full Version : Birger Lens Mounts - Shipping / Confirmations

Everybody should receive a sales order confirmation by email over the next few hours. The system is sending them as we speak. Everbody, including those that have already received a confirmation, will receive an email. The MRP system wouldn't let me send a very long email attached to the sales orders, so that email has a link to this post.
Dear Customer :
Thank you for your Cinema Lens Mount reservation/order. As we get ready to start shipping the Canon lens mount in volume, we are resending all order confirmations (N.B. your credit card, if charged, was only charged once). Confirmation dates and numbers are based on the time and date of receipt of the order form; and may have been amended since we initially sent confirmation. This document supersedes all previous communication.
If your order was cancelled, that, and the refund of your deposit, is reflected in the attached document.
Please respond to this email and:
1. Confirm that you would like to take delivery when available, or request cancellation and a refund of your deposit.
2. Confirm all information (i.e. mount type) in the sales order.
3. Give us payment information (i.e. credit card, address, etc) if it has changed, or was incomplete.
4. Authorize us to now charge your deposit (if not yet done); and to charge you for the balance (including shipping) when we ship.
5. If you have a Nikon reservation, either: (1) tell us if you would like to take delivery of a Canon mount, and a free Nikon to Canon mechanical adapter now, or (2) would like to wait for your Nikon adapter to be available. If you take option (1), you may trade your Canon mount in for a Nikon, for the cost of shipping, when available.
6. If you would like us to ship your mount as soon as available, authorize us to partial ship. (N.B. you will be subject to a second shipping charge when your knobs and accessory cables are available).
If this information is not received by 1 June 2008, your reservation will be cancelled. Lastly, please include the sales order number, Company name and name on the credit card in all communications. We will contact you when your order is ready to ship.

What kind of time frame are we looking at for the knobs and accessory cables? A decision to pay for separate shipping might depend on how much time it'll take to get those other items ready.
Also, what kind of shipping cost (ballpark figure) are we looking at in order to send this stuff across to the West coast? That'll also effect the decision on whether to have things shipping separate.

I faxed an order the evening of Black Friday (November 23), and then emailed the same order a few days later as well. My card was charged for the deposit, however, I have not yet received email as of 6 hours after you reported all emails sent.

Most people have been really good about following directions. Thanks. We will get through the this round of emails within the next two days, just not today...
For those that have either:
(1) PMed without including your name, company name and email address; expecting me to be able to correlate a cryptic screenname and a real person...
-or-
(2) emailed without including your name, and/or company name...
-or-
(3) think you might be one of the people that did not do a good job following directions...
please resend your emails and/or PMs. I am really good with riddles, I am not clairvoyant... :help:
Some of the missing orders, aren't missing, just the email addresses were mistyped, or the spam filters didn't let them through when they were sent from the MRP server (third party impersonating birger.com) instead of our email server. A few were actually lost.

As far as I know, the mount itself only lets you adjust the aperture. For electronic focus, you gotta wait for the knob. Looks like we'll be focusing the old fashioned way for a while... :pinch:

Yes Jason, but because of the intended use, I must have what was the main reason for me purchasing the Birger, unit, the wireless control system of the Canon lenses, which are extremely light and small, compared to Cine lenses, even to the great little RED 18-50.
The project were the Birger will be first use calls for such a set up.
Yes Martin, you are partially correct, but I own three RED ONE cameras, of which two are on a long term lease with Paradise , now shooting a 3D Motion picture in Pittsburgh, called "My Bloody Valentine" and after that they will be flying to Spain for an other 3D motion picture. And one just leased to Alamo Films in Santa Barbara. But I have other ONE's as well.

We are already more than half finished dealing with the communications that we have received since saturday. But, we still have a backlog of about 100 emails and 25 voicemails left to process. We should clear it today.
If you had a question we are getting back to you as we process the emails. If everything in the response allowed your deposit to be processed and your order cleared for the shipping queue, then you won't hear anything for another couple days.
We expect to ship a batch of 20 to 30 units on friday/monday. We will notify by email when each is packaged for shipment in this first batch, with a tracking number.
After this first batch, we will then understand our delivery schedule well enough to post with a target ship date, based on confirmation number. We have enough parts in house, or due in the next few days, to ship all Canon mounts on order.
After this first batch we will have an update on knobs and mac software. A clear majority of reservation holders opted to have the mount asap, with the knobs to follow.

The first few emails should be going out to a handful of beta testers in a week or two that will give details about when the second email should arrive. The second email is behind schedule because of a few missing sentences that were supposed to arrive yesterday. Based on the feedback they get from the first email, the second email should be ready in a week or two (without punctuation or correct grammar -- that will all come later). Don't worry, it'll be worth the wait!!
EDIT: Aw man, Erik replied while I was writing my little gag. Egg in my face!

California Partial Sales Tax Exemption
Erik, I emailed you but thought I'd post here just in case.
How do you handle the CA tax exemption? Should I fax you a filled out copy? It has to have the purchase order info, date of purchase, description of property, etc.

guessing on CA sales tax ... they do not charge CA sales tax ...
which leaves you with the option of paying directly to CA in full yourself or pay the portion above the 5.25% use tax under 6378 ....
if you have a account with CA state board of equalization you pay it whenever they have you scheduled to pay ?? ( mine is in July ) ..if no account then call them ( they'll probably be in shock that somebody wants to pay ) and ask how do you pay the % above 5.25% ....
just so you're aware .. in CA if you paid CA sales tax on equipment you bought you do NOT have to charge sales tax when you rent it out ... if you did NOT pay CA sales tax then you are suppose to charge CA sales tax on all rental receipts for that equipment ...
under 6378 you do not have to pay the 1st 5.25% CA sales tax on purchase ... you pay the remaining 2-3.5% ( depending on area you live) = then you do not have to charge sales tax if you rent out the equipment bought under 6378 ...

Just want to keep everbody aware of what is going on.
We have been having a difficult time with the Mogami cable that we selected, and the 10 pin Lemos that go to the camera. The pins are too small for the guage of wire that we selected. Turned into an assembly nightmare.
Bad news, that 100mm cable will now be grey. Good news, enough cable is on its way to us to make 1000 of these cables. Bad news, it won't get here until Monday. Good news, it is still Mogami (high quality).
That Friday/Monday ship target is now a Monday/Tuesday target. I will keep people posted.
We should be caught up with remaining emails and voicemails today. Please try to resist phoning us for now. The huge volume of calls has gotten in the way of us getting things built and out the door. With only five employees, having three employees on the telephone simultaneously can really help kill productivity...

Been a tough fought couple of days...
The cable problem is resolved. See attached pictures. We built 10 cables this morning, all were production quality, by the fifth we felt we were up to production speed... grey doesn't look so bad. Problem solved.
On thursday of last week our pick and place machine started dropping components. There are approximately 65 components on the board pictured, so there isn't a chance in hell we were going to hand place. On friday the machine wouldn't even home the z-axis. About five minutes ago this problem was solved. The laser sensor was out of alignment unfortunately took a technician in New Jersey, an engineer in Switzerland, and an engineer in Boston, a hell of a lot of time to find and correct the problem. On the plus side nothing actually was broken; and we now know this machine inside out.
I am without my star technician tomorrow, so we will run boards through the machine to make sure all really is well, butwe will not be doing final assembly or shipping until wednesday.
Amy ran through emails last on sunday evening. She will not be back on this until wednesday. Hold tight. 1 June deadline was a kick in the pants more than a hard deadline. Please get back to us if you have not heard anything from communications sent prior to the end of May.
Picture is: the ten cables built today that proved to us that we resolved the issue; one semi placed board from last thursday; and 240 unplaced boards, that we will start running tomorrow.
There are always issues... but I think... knock on my oversized wooden desk... that we are in production and through the last of the issues. Latest shipping estimate is wednesday. Don't expect another update until then.
These delays suck. For you and me both.:waaa:

I don't think that Birger time is linear at all.
It is plain impossible to deduct a gregorian date from a Birger one.
There is some weird Einsteinian time warping going on. Which just proves that the mount itself is the work of a genius.

Mike from Aquavideo was supposed to receive something by Saturday ... Mike is usually quite informative but his silence does seem to suggest it's all still 'in the works' ? I hope I'm wrong  the wait continues ...
Te he ... perhaps a 'Birger day' is approx the equivalent of a Gregorian calendar week, a 'Birger week' is the equivalent of a Gregorian calendar month and a 'Birger month' is the equivalent of a Gregorian calendar 7 months ?
Birger was doing some final software changes as well as adding start/stop GPI i/o to the software and messed something up on Friday, he was fixing it on Saturday/sunday so supposed to send it out today instead.

Thanks for the update, Mike.
As much as I want this Birger mount ASAP, I'd rather there be at least a few days of real beta-testing before a larger amount of units are sent out. I can just imagine the nightmare it would be if units end up having to be sent back. Did you manage to get any fresh info about the knobs?

I'd still like an answer to the question: has Birger been working on the knobs during this time, or will those still start shipping "a few weeks" (ahem) after the mounts?

Kinda seems like those should be done by now, right?
