Again (sorry) why "Macdaddy"?

It's American slang.

macdaddy:

The pimp-meister, the king of the streetwalkers, possessor of the blingest of bling-bling. The mac daddy is the man who means everything (and the only man who really means anything) to his ladies of the night. "Oh baby please give it to me - you ma mac daddy!"

Or in this inference by Jarred: the biggest, baddest, of anything.

I see that group of four connectors at the back (LEMO type? a compact BNC replacement) look recessed- clearly a good design feature for mechanical protection. I wonder if the EVF / LCD cable will be available with a right-angle connector. Anyway what you've got there looks perfectly serviceable. Congrats to the team on getting this far, I'm sure NAB will be quite a party!

From what I can tell, the connector side of the camera looks to be nice and flush when no cables are connected. This suggests some kind of a panel could be easily made that fits flat against the camera, with cutouts for just the connectors in use at a given time, to protect the unused ports. Ideally it would quickly reconfigure to open or hide any specific port. Hmm...

I really love the fact your HUGE Industrial Design Team is still able to turn on a dime and continue to refine the camera right up until production begins. Still though, jamming it through corporate had to be a tough battle. Jim, you must have connections.

All corporate sarcasm aside, I love that when she is unleashed unto the production world-- that will be her least capable day. The process of development and refinement does not grind to halt. This is only the beginning, looking forward to growing with my camera.

True - in one weeks time we should know a lot more. I'm looking forward to seeing how the workflow has been integrated into NLE systems.

I'm just assuming the pictures from the camera are going to be mindblowing based on the (barely concealed) confidence in the RED team posts here.

It's great to see RED One with all the toys on, I think that's going to help a lot of the doubters see it as an actual camera rather than a concept.

Thanks for the pic Jarred. It's nice to see all the camera connections with labels. There was a post recently from someone a little worried about not having seen any labels so far. Any chance we could see s close-up of those labels. I know what they all are, thanks to the connections picture, but I would love to see them up-close. I tried it in Photoshop, but the res and jpg compression don't hold up. How about giving us a raw file of this picture ?!

Regarding the conncections on the back, according to the connections picture, there are two additional power ports, what are they for ?

Cheers,

That's what happens when you work with a mad scientist:sorcerer:

You have got to hand it to Jim Jannard though, the creative eye and the artistic flare this man has is trully awesome.

I wonder how long it will be before another camera company comes out with a camera with eh......similar style:turned:

I have no doubt Jim will be the perfect gentlemen when he re-appears on the C.com forum. I am sure some of those guys just felt that there was too much ephoria about a camera that was not in production, thats all. Many of them will come round and realise that us red user fanboys were onto something that no one else realised was going to herald a new beginning.

Mind you there are a few that are going to continue to rubbish red no matter how brilliant the camera turns out to be.

Dont you just love how they continue to try and improve days before production begins. Is that not simply brill.

Whoa...I take one afternoon/evening off from the forum to hang out with family, and what pops up: a kick-ass pic of RED One all tricked out for battle, 12 pages of posts, 114 replies, and 6409 page views so far! This kind of happening really makes a guy paranoid to take the night off...

Jarred...nice pic - you've definitely got the eye for lighting, orientation, etc...

Design team: very well thought out designs, individually and as a whole...

All RED Team: thanks for hangin' in there through these many months of 8-day workweeks. The results look way cool...

Macdaddy comin' to da NAB house...gotta love that!

Very true. I might be in the minority here, but I actually like the idea of not having my eye stuck to a viewfinder all day long. If the LCD performs as advertised, I'm sure I'll be extremely happy using it as my main monitoring option. Maybe someday I'll get the EVF, but I'm starting with the LCD first.

I'm with you on that too. I guess the old school guys who are used to optical viewfinders can't go without the EVF. My red will usually be on a tripod, dolly, or jib most of the time anyway.

Wow, I turn my back for a bit more than a day and BAM!

...I wish I was going to NAB. The camera, EVF, LCD, etc.. all look amazing. Can't wait to see more views and see one in person.

Seeing RED #1 loaded and ready for its close-up really starts to bring home what a monumental achievement this has been by the RED team. I hope you guys are ready for the onslaught because I suspect things are about to get completely MENTAL :bleh: ... in a good way.

I can't believe something this sexy is actually slated for delivery in a few weeks. Offhollywood and Gibby could charge admission fees just to hold the sexy beast. You lucky dudes...

Let's return IT:

Just a question:
The connector on the rear of the lcd are the only one on the chassis?

One more:
Where are my two Reds?

RED needs *NEEDS* to produce high quality studio level HMI lights. they are a SCAM like the The VariCam was till RED came around...now panasonic is making a 2/3 dvcprohd p2 cam for......$14k????

let me fall off my chair now and roll around in the floor LOL ...you have *got* to be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!

Obin Olson

OMG and the poor producer that bought a VariCam for a film less then 1 year ago, for...drum roll please.......$65k for the body.

may his soul rest in peace, I think that was his new grave I drove by today.
