My friend Peter Wilson from UK who was just at the NHK Open house in Tokyo for a week supporting the BBC who have signed a collaborative document with NHK to develop Super Hi-vision technology.
NHK expressed very positive support for the Dirac Open Technology Codec which had compressed an 8K x 4K @ 60 Fps showreel into 128 Mbps ( 16MB/s ) This was demonstrated using an Astro design Downconverter and 4K x 2K LCD display. NHK will now jointly develop Dirac with the BBC for the super Hi-Vision system.
