Hi
I came across the red camera by accident a couple of months ago and have since found this forum. Frankly the camera looks great but I'm struggling to get a clear picture of were the production is up to. Looking at some of the posts, some people have been able to reserve cameras but I believe that this is no longer possible?
Is this camera going into a limited production soon, and will it ever be mass produced?
I guess what it boils down to is when is it coming out and is the any chance of getting one?!
Any info would be gratefully recieved!

Hugh

I hate to say this to your first post, but do a search. The answer to every question you asked has been discussed many, many times.

I've moved this to off topic because introductions don't seem appropriate for the RED ONE discussion forum.

But welcome aboard! Glad to have you here :)

Welcome Hugh. This is a great place for information, but as Brook said it will be easier for you to just dig in. By searching through the different sections you will be able to gain a lot more knowledge than just getting answers to a few basic questions.

Also, if this camera might be the camera for you maybe you should get to NAB next week and see it up close and personal.

Best,

jason

umm, ok, thanks, sorry to post in the wrong forum. I did do several searches and looked at the official website, but theres no up to date info on the website and my searches didnt come up with anything concrete or very specific to my query. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, just thought I'd ask for something up to date from anyone who knew. I wasnt after huge amounts of info.

there are currently just under 1500 units reserved those will be filled
by sept. oct. New reservations will be taken at NAB.

I would suggest you get to the NAB both at 8 am on monday and fight your way to the res taker cause its going to be nuts. I cannot say whether you can do it online at the same time but I would imagine so.

You can make a reservation via any computer on the Red.com website monday morning. It will cost 10% of the purchase price to get one.

Just a thought, it might be useful to have a READ THIS FIRST thread that encapsulates the basic info about RED, as well as lay some guidelines down for posting. I know the FAQ idea discussed by TJ et al in another thread will be the be-all-end-all, but a quick primer wouldn't hurt.

great idea for sure. I think the moderators are waiting until after nab to make the RMF and FAQ.

If anyone is writing a FAQ, check the wikipedia entry on RED. It seems to summarize a number of details about the camera with reasonable accuracy as far as anyone knows it:

Is it going to be PAYPAL again for the Monday RED website deposits?

There were quite a few glitches with this monopoly last time especially from our overseas bretheren.

Welcome, HMP.

You will find that this forum has quickly been populated with some of the best camera, cinema, and production people you're likely to come across on the net. They are friendly, knowledgeable... and very generous with their knowledge.
