Hey Guys,

So I'm shooting a 7 minute short in one weeks time.

On the set here's what I plan to do for backup.

After each scene is shot, I remove the red drive, connect it to by Macbook Pro. I open each file in red alert to make sure it works.

I transfer the footage from the Red Drive to 2 external drives. One for backup and another for editing.

I'll not delete the footage from the red drive until the end of the shoot when I double check everything with the 2 drives.

Does this sound good?

Thanks for any help.

That's pretty much the best practice. If you wanted to be ultra-cautious, you could also have those external drives each being a mirrored RAID set, which would give you fault tolerance on each drive, but that's probably unnecessary.

When making your copies, it is probably most sensible to copy from the RED drive to each backup drive, rather than from RED Drive to Drive 1, then Drive 1 to Drive 2 - that way any potential copy errors are very unlikely to be replicated on both copies.

Sound advice. Thanks.
