I'm trying to find somebody that would have some form of 4k editing system for an online edit when I do my feature (I'm looking to have Paul Lear do the CC work, but I haven't talked to him yet...). Anybody know any one with a 4k editing system, that could work with Dalsa, Phantom 65 and Red footage (offline cut on Avid MC)?

You don't do a "4K online edit," because there's no such thing as a 4K video format. You might do a 4K data conform, which can be done on a number of systems. The are numerous companies in both New York and Los Angeles that can do that. The notion of a "freelance 4K editor" with a personal 4K conforming system is probably about 5 years premature, unless you consider a copy of Adobe After Effects, an awful lot of patience, and about a month of rendering a "4K online system."

The bigger questions are why you feel you need to finish in 4K, and exactly what you're going to deliver if you do.

the point of 2k is cost...a 2k edit/filmout will cost significantly less. Could be as much as 1/2 the cost.

another advantage shooting 4K/posting 2K is the added real estate you have in editorial. We find having the extra real estate comes in very handy in post for a variety of reasons from simple repositioning shots or adding movement.
