You know, since RED is offering B4, Canon, Nikon and PL mounts I thought I'd mention this. An OCT-19 mount would be *really* handy. You can mount PL-mount lenses on an OCT-19 mount, but not the other way around. And there are a *lot* of great inexpensive lenses in OCT-19 that would be ideal for people using the RED. Very affordable stuff that's very high quality and already has follow focus. So someone could pick up a lens for less cash than they'd spend on a Nikon or Canon still lens and be able to use follow focus with it on the RED. I have a ton of lenses for my Kinor and most of them are pretty great. You can pick up ssomething like a 28mm T1.5 or a 75mm T1.6 for $300 or so. They're very well built and they all have 82mm filter threading for times when it isn't convenient to use a matte box. Sure would be a handy option. Especially for me. ;-)

My guess is any one with a machine shop could whip one up based on the PL for a nominal fee. $500-$750. Shouldn't be that hard.

I've seen some anamorphic lenses available but in the OCT-18 mount which, I confess, I have not heard of before.

Anyone know the specs or anything about OCT-18 mount...?

(apparently the lenses are for a turret Konvas)

OCT-18 is a lot like the old Arri standard mount. In fact, I think the lenses may be interchangeable. I have a set of anamorphic lenses in OCT-18 as well as about a dozen spherical lenses. I use them on an old Konvas 1M that I usually hand-crank:

The optics in the lenses I own resemble old Zeiss lenses from before the T* coatings. They're actually quite good at getting that sort of vintage low-contrast look that I'm usually trying to achieve when I set up to hand-crank footage. Very compact lenses (other than the anamorphics). Not in the same league as the OCT-19 lenses, though.

Cheers!

Do you know where one might find the exact specs on the mount? (flange-to-film-plane etc)

I Use OCT-19 sometimes and will be making a mount adapter for the Red. I have a set of MKBK super speeds that I think are quite tasty and am looking forward to using.

It is not generally compatabile with PL mounts... A "double mount" would be possible but I have never seen it. ( have seen BNCR / PL double mounts that could be used on either )

OCT-19 lens mount:
diamater 68 mm, and flange focal distance 61 mm +/- 0.01mm

OCT-18 ( aka 1KSR ) diameter 47 mm ( -0.01...0.027mm for lens
side ) and flange focal distance 57mm +/- 0.01 mm.

I would not reccomend using OCT-18 for anything if you can help it- like the Arri standard mount it's a bit weak, not very precise and the lens choices are mostly pretty retro.

Does anyone know if anything has ever come of this? I'd be interested in knowing what is out there in terms of using a set of LOMOs with an OCT-19 mount on a R1. Is it possible?

I just received ALLSTAR's OCT-19 A-mount and it is very nice. High quality CNC machined. I also have an OCT-19 mount that mounts directly to the RED (replaces the PL mount) that I'm interested in selling.

See http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=40918&highlight=ALLSTAR&page=16. I'll try to post a photo soon.

Thanks for the tip. I had not seen that on REDUSER. Do they have a website?
