50,000 copies selling magazine reports " Wrong Info " about RED

Today, I bought a less than 2 USD ( for three books ) magazine in the 7-Eleven store and RED one was in the two book cover story.

There were lot of wrong information provided may be from someone or somebody ? Myself as a professional RED owner and user in HKG and I need to clarify the followings points here in this Z/HD Zone edition 513 dated 12 June 2008 in HKG.

The HD zone magazine said in CHINESE that :

1) RED is 4520 x 2540 ( RED 4K is less than that pixel format ) 2) RED is selling around HKD 100,000.00 ( Less than USD 13,000.00 !!! ) ( Starts less than HKD 160,000.00 to be used if you have other DIY accessories )
3) RED one camera has its self-generate Test Signals !!! ( Color Test Chart is for setting up a monitor but it can not be recorded on RED ) 4) RED HDMI and HDSDI are the image quality to be captured onto the external computer. ( They are for preview only for on Set monitoring )

There are more than 50,000.00 copies ( www.e-zone.com.hk ) to cheat all the chinese people to know about the RED one camera from www.RED.com

IT IS BAD FOR RED to tell ALL CHINESE who can ONLY READ CHINESE to know about the RED. SO BAD THAT THEY ALL GOT THE WRONG INFORMATION from that Non-Professional " CHEAP Selling " Street level based A/V magazine in HKG and for CHINA.

I am just telling the turth as a normal reader.

Well it's not necessarily all wrong information. Red is 4520 x 2540, but at most we can shoot 4306 x 2409 or whatever that 16:9 ratio is (sorry I didn't bust out the calculator). The extra pixels are for black balancing and for full frame viewing. The camera can generate test signals for color balancing between monitors, grey fields, etc.

It maybe was a bad translation on the magazines part??

It looks like they gave the 100,000 HKD number to help with comparison to other products. Agree with you though, when I read through the numbers the price discrepancy really jumped out at me... 15 wan HKD would have been a better choice.

On the bright side, at least they ended with: 因此，将来会越来越多人选择4k摄录机拍摄, or in english "consequently, in the future more and more people will choose to shoot 4K."

Last week - we had a great event in Beijing. Over 100 people came to see Ted and me talk about RED and RED workflow at an ASSIMILATE-sponsored event. And I know that Ted spoke the next day at a large Apple event in Beijing.

And Ted just left Hong Kong, where he was at a large Apple event as well.

I think there will always be misinformation out there. Anybody who is "real" and is seriously looking at high-end cameras will always gravitate towards the right info and the right people.

Also, Ryan knows Mandarin. Not sure about Cantonese.

What I prefer to see is if any magazine like to report " RED one " or 4K shooting tools,

they should

1st do their homework ( www.red.com ) ( www.reduser.net ) and please do not just listen to someone/somebody to say a little with their own interest to achieve their gready own Redspace through the mass distribution media.

It's all about passions + endless efforts in years+ to achieve their Arts and of course the tools they like or prefer. May be Film / HD or 2 / 4 / 8K or mixture...who cares...they are Arts Chefs not them ( Audiences )

They are recently running a project of DI,headed by Mr.Li X X ,
support by SARFT.

Another organization is Hua Long,they are also interested in DI.

There is no free lunch in the REDworld though. People Business everywhere.

I was ex-Philips / Thomson Broadcast to close million of USD deals before you guys in CHINA in my GOOD 90s.

CHINESE made DI is coming to support their own Cameras.

AVID did not achieve any NLE market in CHINA though over their long 20 years. Final Chinese Pro NLEs sell millions in CHINA alone and they all developed in CHINA though.

I am just a HKG CHINESE gardener for the Outsiders.

ARRI Germany did a DI seminar in HK last month, and they invited many customers from other asian countries to HKG to attend the DI workshop.

The colorist of the " Lord of the Ring " made them very happy.

ARRI also gave a brief and bigger picture on Film scan / HD / 4K to DI then to Film Copy and DCM and DCP etc.

May be for RED + ASSilimate to organize this in HK next time.
