If you were ordering three Reds for a studio configuration, what accessories would you order from Red?
Thanks!

Well, those soft handcuffs are pretty nice, Whips can hurt so I'd stay away from that.. But if you.....
Wait.... What did you mean by "accessories" exactly?

If you are doing studio, then the simplest would be:
1. Premium rails
2. LCD
3. RED RAW port
4. RED Drive (if you need it)

im opting for the flux capacitor
as long as the plutonium sales will be ready by nab.
CRAP! now the government will come after me because you know they are monitoring this thread!
Jack, why premium Red-Rail? Just trying to figure out what the bits and bolts in these packages do.
I notice both Red-Rail packages (premium and basic) come with 8" rods.
The premium package includes 12" rods and a 15mm rod adapter.
So, for a follow focus, you'd have to add your own 15mm rods anyhow right? You're not using Red's included 12"/8" rods for follow focus or matte box correct? Those "Red rods" look like they're only for things like grip handles.

Remember that all parts will be available individually. If you want some parts and not others [from a package], you can just buy what you need.
What sort of lenses will you be using in the studio? Will the cameras be on sticks or peds? What are your camera operators used to? Are you planning on utilizing HDSDI output as your main source [snaking to a switcher] or are you recording 4K with a RED DRIVE or similar?

Thanks Jack. For studio, would the EVF viewfinder be an advantage? Would I need three Red drives or only one?
The Red Ram 64 GB would be an advantage, I assume, for when we take the cameras on location or for rentals -- would you get three of those, one, or none?
Under what circumstances would I likely need the B4 lens adaptors?
If I want zoom lenses, should I order the Red zooms or look for an alternative?
Finally, is the Raw port the output to the switcher and deck for all video, or just Raw.
Sorry for all the questions, but thanks!
But are the Red-rods the same thing as 15mm rods for a follow focus? Or are the Red-rods for mounting proprietary accessories such as hand grips.

This is all last minute so I'll appreciate your recommendations. Up until now I had planned on 2 Sony F900r's and one Viper -- was going with 2 Canon 11 X HD zoom lenses and one Canon 21 X HD zoom. Now that I've switched to Red, I have no clue about lenses and would appreciate your advice. Cams will be on tripods with dollies (2) and on a jib with motorized pan/tilt and remote zoom/focus (1). I plan on the HDSDI output as my main source, snaking to a switcher, running through an Orad virtual set system, and recording to HDCAM SR (not sure if I need the Raw port for this purpose - would love your opinion).
I would record 4K only for shots out of the studio, but I suppose some people using my studio might desire 4K for straight greenscreen work that doesn't use my Orad virtual studio system.
Thanks!

the only reason i would want a cage.. or build one myself (more likely) would be to side mount rails for a swing away mattebox

Just turn the plutonium into a weapon of mass destruction... That way, they'll never find it.

The rods included with either RED accessory package are 19mm standard as used by ARRI. The Premium Production Pack includes a 15mm rod adapter if you want to mount 15mm rods and accessories that fit them. This 15mm rod adapter will also be available individually -- as will all of the accessories.
I'm hoping we'll have a complete accessory list with prices at NAB so we can start to put this puzzle together.

You could purchase RED's B4/Abacus adapter and run an ENG-style lens with motorized zooms [capable of 2K, so HD is no problem]. The good news is that you wouldn't have to fight against shallow DOF as much as you would with PL-mount 35mm lenses. Should save money, too.
Depending on the lenses, some have internal motors and some will utilize external motors. That's up to you, I suppose. I'm not much of a B4 lens guy... I'd check the EFP/ENG forum for advice.
HDSDI will do the trick for you. You can use single-link HD-SDI for 4:2:2 or dual-link HD-SDI for 4:4:4. You will not need a RAW port.
For 4K, get a RED DRIVE or RED RAM. Remember that you'll need 35mm cine lenses in order to shoot 4K... B4 lenses and S16mm lenses will not work. If you're on a budget, you could buy a Nikon [or similar] mount and use still lenses.

Thanks very much Brook! What is the Raw port for and who would need it?

The RAW DATA port is for outputting 4.5K uncompressed RAW at up to 60p and 2K uncompressed RAW at up to 120p. It must be attached to a very large and fast RAID... think refrigerator-sized. I suspect that few people will use it... it will probably be popular for shooting higher frame rates as a rental option [not from RED, renting from a rental house]. I suspect that very few people will actually buy the RAW DATA port [and a RAID to support it].
