WILL SET YOU FREE!

Welcome to RedSpace!

Jim has done a pretty damn good job of hyping this build - so I'll cut to the chase.

I've tested more firmware builds than I can remember. I think I am on the fourth Alpha of Build 16. But this build is really something special.

Seriously impressive.

Rich, noise free blacks "right out of the box." A MUCH easier way to nail the "perfect raw exposure".

I rented a Sony LMD 2450W from Abel and I just LOVE it. It switches seamlessly from 720 while shooting to 1080 on playback.

The 1-2 frame sync offset is gone.

And how cool is it to set one button to take you to RESOLUTION - set another button to take you directly to VARISPEED?

I will post a cool clip or two as soon as I can - need to go get some sleep now - I was on set for 14 hours today - here's a frame from a test with NO LIGHTS - two glow sticks - ISO 1000

Great Scot, Man! Do you know what this means! NO one is safe! NO ONE! If there is moonlight, maybe even just starlight... there's no place to hide.:waaa:

And the glow sticks didn't burn out.

Amazing. Thanks for sharing. Sleep tight ;)

I have a feeling MR. Bloom is more pumped about the future of red and glow sticks then any of us.

I can't believe he was that into glow sticks back then.

Psyched to see such an improvement though. I'm jealous. I'll be shooting a big tungsten green screen in NYC next week, it would be awesome to do some b16 tests on.

congrats red team!

Really excited to hear about the customizable buttons. That's gonna make life a heck of a lot easier!!

Also super pumped about 1080 playback. That's probably the one feature I'm looking forward to the most.

Glow sticks look really nice for ISO 1000... but I certainly wouldn't call that "no noise in the blacks." Keep in mind as that it's been oversampled considerably from the original frame size (major noise reduction) and it'd be much more noticeable in the moving image. I'd like to see the .R3D or a 4K TIFF...

No R3Ds or TIFFs will be posted by the Alpha testers... part of the rules.

Of course there is noise. These are glow-sticks at ISO 1000! It is the amount and quality of noise that has us all excited around here.

Interesting rule. To prevent premature hypercriticism?

Exciting shot. Glow sticks only. wow.

I can respect the no .TIFF rule, that's cool. I also expect there to be noise at ISO 1000. I just wouldn't call it "rich, noise free blacks 'right out of the box,'" that's all. :-) Perhaps he meant in ISO 320 - but that's not what he showed us.

Anyway, great job with the new improvements... looking forward to the beta!

Man that's impressive. If you haven't already, bring the still into Photoshop, look at the channels and blast the levels. You have to push REALLY hard to make it suffer.

"rich, noise free blacks 'right out of the box,'"

320 ISO would be right out of the box.

You can call me Mark.

18mm Arri prime - T1.3 wide open w/180 shutter

no additional processing or correction - just a one click export from RedAlert

as Jim said - of course there is noise - but the amount, and quality of the noise even at ISO 1000 is pretty damn impressive to me.

Does that mean "no footage, period," or can the alpha testers post Quicktime clips?

i like to see more, perhaps iso 4000.

Timed up it still looks good, even from the JPG, here is something like about 4000 time up and about 3000 time up with sat for more red/green.

The blue noise seems lower, maybe? Hope to have TIFF soon to check...

Adjusted for viewing at gamma 2.4 only... Looks better than some film scans I did with low light on 500 Vision.
