Hello.
I'm trying to incorporate red generated material to existing 2k pipeline. The most sensible solution would seem to be pulling the frames used in the final edit as 2k dpx files from the R3D originals with redline.
I'm a bit puzzled by the different gamma options. I'd like to have one low contrast setting to use at all the material in order to avoid having to do shot by shot colour correction adjustments before the actual CC.
Using something like REDlog would seem quite ideal. What I find quite strange though is that the different logarithmic gamma options don't seem to give you any more latitude than the REC709 option. It looks to me that the REC709 conversion with the default settings already has the whole dynamic range of the captured image and using other gammas or changing exposure settings doesn't really give you much more detail in either end of the spectrum.
I have quite limited set of test material though, so I might be jumping in to conclusions too fast. What could be the benefits of using PD685 or REDLog over REC709 as it seems like the whole dynamic range of the camera already gets compressed into REC709?
Thanks in advance for all the ideas and suggestions.
