RED will produce a lot of data, we know. It often happen's in documentary or similar productions, that you look and wait for a special movement, that someboy turns his head, that this bird will fly away and so on. The problem is, you don't know exactly when. For that reason it would be great to have the possibility to use a picture cache for lets say about 10 seconds buffered video before press the RED REC Button. That should be possible with REDflash I guess. Graeme, perhaps I missed a thread about this question, something planned in this direction?
Cheers

As long as I can turn it off so the camera isn't constantly draining its battery...

Sorry Brook, don't know what your battery-answer has to do with my question: perhaps my english is to bad. What I mean: 10 second buffered data helps you to record a movement that took place in the 10 seconds right before you press the RECORD button.

Oh, of course. But by the camera constantly buffering that data it will use more battery life than if it was just sitting without buffering/recording data.

Ok, you're right, then you have to turn it on and off in the menu

If you were recording to a Flash Memory based Digital Magazine the additional power draw involved in a 10-15 sec ring buffer would be minimal.

Does that mean you are considering buffered pre-record when using REDFLASH Stuart?

Nick none of the red team has ever came out and said yes we will have pre-recording.
But they have came pretty close to saying yes:biggrin:
I can see the point with items that are unique or special to red. But i do not see why they should not come out and say yes or no to pre-record when other cameras have it!
I read the general comments about pricing over at c.com. Most negative comments were unjustified but one or two had elements that could be argued either way. I do get frustrtaed with this particular one (pre-record) because it is a big deal to me. Why not an answer to say yes, no or we are working on it but not sure it will be ready in time for when the camera ships?

I imagine this might be among the features Red wants to unveil at NAB.
