I know this has been brought up before, but I think it's been long enough for an update from all the people who've tried different things now.
What cases are everyone using? What do you think of them?
Also:
1) I can't find the pics of the inside of the RED pelican cases. If anyone can link to them or post new ones I'd really appreciate it.
2) I really like the pictures of Digitalfx's ATA cases. ANyone else using something similar?
THANKS

Rec'd Thermodyne's laser-cut case, but haven't field-tested it yet. Will repost when I do.

looks like the red case requires you to remove the handle before you stow camera- is this correct? if so it is a deal breaker for me- seems to be an unwanted step.

same here, another reason why I liked DigitalFX's case, rails, base plate and ext. handle all stayed on.

Yeah, you do have to remove the top handle. I used to mind, but not so much anymore. That ATA case you pointed out Brandon looks great, not really a fan of the lay out but that can be altered.
The RED case does allow multiple configurations of use though as is. True, you can't store the body with the top handle, but you can leave the bottom plate attached (and even the shoulder dovetail).
Just my two cents.
OH! And every time I travel with it, someone recognizes the case and asks, "Is that a RED camera? Whoa..."

Shawn, out of curiosity, how would you change the layout of the ATA case? First thing that comes to mind for me is that if I'm going to stow the charger then I'd like to keep the batteries with it, and since I don't own the quickplate, I'd like to replace the quickplate compartment for a spot for 3 batts.
Other thoughts?

I'd like to see the side handle compartment combined into one slot like in the RED case. I agree with the batteries. Saw the charger but zero bricks. I carry four in the RED case, plus one on the cradle. Then in a separate case I have two chargers and a brick.
Also, there's too many slots for universal mounts for me. I only need one slot as I keep one uni-mount attached to the cradle at all times. Would like to see some space alloted to cables, I like carrying spares. Also, I keep my allen tools in the case.
Plus, I can store one lens with the RED. I also keep my CF cards in there as well. I wish I could squeeze in a hard drive too, but I have a case for those.
Now, I have my EVF but nowhere to put it. I use the slot designed for it to house the four bricks, so I'm trying to figure out a solution.
But my biggest problem with the ATA design is how the body sits. It's laid out to conserve space. In the RED case, when you transport it the camera is never resting on the lens mount.
Just my opinion here.

thanks shawn. totally true about the top layer, the whole layout for that is up for grabs for me, especially since I don't have any side handles or the grip mount, and probably wont buy any. I'd like to put 3 bricks in the space currently devoted to the quick plate, and if decide to get more I'd prefer to put those in a separate case case anyway. Also I want a separate case for my lenses so no issue there as well. Good call on the hard drive, i dont see where its supposed to go in the plans.

A case with camera, aks, and four batteries is going to be big and heavy. I'm going for a case with camera body with baseplate and top handle, EVF, LCD, cables, rods. I have a separate case with batteries and chargers and a third case for all other Red AKS.

A couple of fellas (me included) in NYC are designing an A&J case that will leave the camera built with top rails and top handle, ET bridgleplate and dovetail with quick-release, and have compartments for cradle, quickplate, drives, EVF and LCD. Should not be bigger and heavier than a 435 case. You'll just pull the camera out and click in on your O'Connor or Sachtler head. Pop on the EVF and the cradle and plug it in!
Of course it means separate cases for other accessories and batteries, but we were following the rental-house film style of camera plus accessories; batteries, lenses et al in accessory cases.
When it's done I'll post the A&J case model number they assign it so others may order one.
Cheers,
Harry

You really have to have more than one case. I disagree with the backpack method as the only way.
I have six. The RED case for most of it, heavy little guy, 1 for the 300mm (and 50-150 zoom when it arrives), 1 for matte box/follow focus and filters, 1 for hard drives and accessories and 1 for chargers and bricks. Then my sticks.

I would actually prefer to have multiple cases (if for not other reason than to keep the weight of each reasonable), but I'm trying to stay within budget. Would it cost twice as much to get 2 half size cases?
