Just wondering if there is anyway to bypass REDCINE and start working on the footage with our having to wait for REDCINE to process?

I guess it would need FCP to have a REDCODEC and Demosaic the footage on the fly.

I'm working out what tell clients when they ask "so I have to wait how long for my footage?"

The processsing time will have a lot to do with the machine your processing on. If you got yourself a new octocore with a big fat graphics card (because redcine takes advantage of the GPU, or so ive read), id imaging things will go pretty smoothly.

I plan on doing a lot of work on the road, so I'm going to have to get a laptop. I'm worried that my compromise of power and speed will be a big hurtle to jump over when it comes to processing footage so i can get out of town.

I think we'll receive the answer to this on Monday. I have a feeling we're going to like the answer. :whistling:

The Clients that will want and be in demand for this camera are use to waiting for film to be processed. Remember this is not mivi DV or SD so clients are going to learn how to work with this new digital cinema.

I seriously wonder how long it will take for the newest Mac Pro (available this summer) to process the data, how long will I need to wait for say one minute of 4K to be downconverted to HD/SD to be used in Final Cut...

My fear is it will be an hour for five minutes, I will learn to live with that, but at present this is what I wonder about the most.

Eirik Isn't that just the heart of it. I'm absolutely sure the 4K images will be wonderful. I hope we get some detailed work flow examples at the NAb Booth because that is also my worry. 17K camera 27K computer?

i see that cineform recently announced a 12bit 4k/2k RGB 4:4:4 "thing" ..which could be one way to render out of REDcine.. if you have cineform prospect you could edit RT 2k in premiere ( not sure about 4k) - i think for 4k they recommend editing at lower res then export EDL and open that in AE and then CC 4k clips ...
at one time i think cineform hinted for around $5k for computer editing 2k/4k real time? ....
i would guess we will not hear anything about the cineform 12bit 4:4:4 2k/4k workflow and if RED can use it till next Monday ???...
