In Build 15 2.2.1 it said to black shade after doing in the instal, I would assume follow the same directions as on the previous build.

should we black balance after the build 15 2.2.8 installs and then install b16?
from the install_readme: Note: After performing any firmware upgrade, a BLACK SHADING calibration should be performed, however the BLACK SHADING process may be omitted if proceeding immediately to load Build 16 firmware.

Jay, i love tenacity. I gave up and moved to Apple.
if fcp suffices, osx is good, but for full online and/or max quality (be it 4K or redcode native via scratch / iridas speedgrade XR etc) one cant use osx so far, but needs windows and/or linux - this double os system mix will be one of the issues which will finally go away once the r16 redcode format and/or sdk are available.
Buit now back to celebrate R16 (and the overloaded red server :))

06-18-2008, 02:09 PM
I see the 1080p output is a 2x downscale of 3840 pixel crop out of the 4096 frame, so the output is 93.75% of the 4k width. I can see why you'd implement that, a simple factor-of-two downscale makes things simple. But since the framing is a bit different from the 4k R3D, does the camera have frame guides to match the 3840 window that is output?
build_16_ops_guide_v3.1.2.pdf, p.53:
1080p: Video output is 1920 x 1080 pixels. For 4K RAW files the image width corresponds to 3,840 pixels scaled down to 1920 pixels, available on the HD Preview (HD-SDI only), HD Program (Dual Link HD-SDI), RED-EVF and RED-LCD outputs. The RED-EVF and RED-LCD will display a 1280 x 720 pixel center cut section out of the larger1920 x 1080 image.

Yes this is significant, especially for audio. In earlier versions you could not adjust the levels while seeing the levels they were on different menu pages... now you can monitor and tweak while being hand held if need be.
Of course it is nice to be able to adjust a bunch of things from that button - but audio was very difficult before.

This is a bit different, there is a display on the left side of the EVF and LCD. When you push the large button on the EVF it brings up a row of buttons:

CH1
CH2
SHU
VAR
ISO
OFF

2.2.8 is included when you download 16 Beta. It's probably an intermediary step required for the 16 upgrade to work.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already, but will the new quicktime component support 16:9 proxies now from previous builds?
Yes it does

I just upgraded to B16 today and there are a few things I would like to see. In false color mode can the greyscale on the side be replaced by a color IRE value chart. Brightest value color on top. Darkest color value on the bottom. I would also like the opportunity to have false color as well as edge highlight for focus. As of now I have to switch between the two in a long menu setting process. I like the scroll wheel menu with the viewfinder. I would like an added selectable item to scroll through view modes, rec 709, redspace, linear.
One thing i noticed with B16 is my viewfinder doesn't strobe, which is great, but it doesn't have the range it had. Highlights look weird and the top three-four white values in the vertical greyscale are indistinguishable along with the bottom two values. The LCD looks great. Too bad the EVF looks worse. I tried adjusting the dark detail but anything above 2% doesn't make a difference and if you go below 2% the image doesn't get any more lattitude, it just looks washed out.

Thats two things - first the default was changed from SYNC to FIXED refresh, and the second is a bug in Beta B16 where the camera can send the wrong gamma setting to the RED-EVF at boot up. That's being addressed right now.

Which QT proxy is used to play 1080p via dual link?
_M or _F or something else?

I would imagine the camera is referencing the r3d file, not the proxy?

If I understand what I'm reading on the download page of the Red web site, Log and Transfer is not supported yet for build 16 beta, is that correct? Thanks.

Would waiting to plug in the evf until after boot up help for now? You said "CAN send the wrong gamma" so I assume it doesnt happen always... Dont know since I havnt tried B16 yet. Installing tonight. Been waiting for Redline and now it's here :)

Maybe. It should be resolved in the next version of Beta Build 16 anyway.

Got an ETA on that new build? Wink wink.
I reiterate. Please do the color values in place of the greyscale when in false color mode. Also, add a view tab for quick change of redspace, rec 709, linear, to the viewfinder speed menu thing. Does it have a name yet?

Just installed build 16 and it's like you guys said. I totally new camera. So many great new things that make all the difference. And once you've had a taste of REDspace along with reading raw for absolute safety you know you can't live without it.

For us this only happens intermittently, a reboot solves the problem.

this would be a big help.

Yes, it would be awesome to assign one of the customisable keys to toggle quickly between Redspace and RAW view (and perhaps false color mode). Or maybe even between different looks...

OK, when build 16 is going to be released build or come out of beta phase?

You can do that already by assigning raw view to a key. But maybe you mean toggle between REC709, RedSpace AND RawView, that can't be done, yet.
You can also assign a key to color mode, which ever one you want (False Color, Edge Highlight or B&W) and then use that to toggle between that and your default mode.
Cheers,

It would be great if one key just CYCLED between RAW, REC, and SPACE. And another key cycled between COLOR, HIGHLIGHT, and B+W
Another option would let you select/de-select what you wanted each key to cycle from, for instance if you never wanted B+W, and just wanted to toggle between FALSE COLOR and EDGE HIGHLIGHT.
The final press of each of these CYCLE buttons would just bring you back to normal view of course, before the cycle began again.
This seems like the best solution to me. I hate going into menus and checking things off.
We should also be able to not only TURN OFF SIDE RECORD, but change the side record button into a USER assignable button.
If people really just want one button to do one thing, they can just DESELECT the other cycling modes and then it would be like the old fashioned way again, where you press the button to go to one mode and then press it again to revert back to normal viewing..

I was using the beta B16, and the machine does not recognize the 3.2.5, hence no upgrade is achieved. Any pointers? :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:
Thanks!
