Hi,
Anybody who is going to use still lenses and looking for an affordable mattebox and remote follow focus check out the following links:
• microMattebox (http://www.redrockmicro.com/microMattebox.html)
• microRemote (http://www.redrockmicro.com/microRemote.html)
If you like them, make a reservation here (http://www.redrockmicro.com/res/0407/rr_res/magic.php). You don't have to put any money down, it's just to reserve your place in line.
$500 for each cannot be wrong.

The micro remote looks amazing, i hope it will work. Surely better than my home made system with a servo/winch and a toy car remote.

These look great!
Questions.
1) Will there be a vertical rectangular filter tray for 4x4 grads?
2) What frequencies does the wireless remote work on - ie will it be compatible with typical legally available wireless control frequencies in the UK/Europe?
3) What's the output power - is it user variable? - I believe there is a maximum transmitter power in the UK/Europe?

Hi Eric,
Don't know about the wireless frequency/power questions, but there is a 4x4 rotating filter tray that would be the one you'd most likely use for grads, of course. I'm presuming that you will also be able to use 4x4 filters in the 4x5.65 trays, although that is not confirmed, afaik.
Also, the MB is said to be modular (you can add and remove filter trays as necessary), so presumably (again unconfirmed) you could have 2 rotating 4x4 trays and one 4x5.65 tray, if you wanted to use a pola and grad at the same time...

According to their site, you can indeed use their 4x5.65 tray with 4x4 filters.
My question about grads was because their picture shows a tray which has the 5.65 long side horizontally and the "handle" on the long side. On a Chrosziel mattebox, that handle would mean you couldn't have a grad filter with the grad line across the short dimension and rotate it to be horizontal because the handle would get in the way.
Doesn't mean they don't do such a tray, just that there isn't a picture of it!

The impression I got from the press release about it was that the 4x5.65 trays are non-rotating (i.e. not much use for grads), whilst the 4x4 stages do rotate - that's why I was saying you'd probably need to be on a 4x4 tray anyway. I could be completely wrong on that though!...

Think you're right about the landscape orientation 4x5.65 trays being non-rotating.
But Chrosziel do portrait orientation 4x5.65 trays which actually go into the 4x4 slot, but that then allows both rotation and up and down positioning of a 4x5.65 grad.

Yes, that's very handy - doesn't look like that's an option on the RR unit, but you never know...
That said, the Chrosziel's about three times the price!
I wonder if a 4x5.65 tray could be made to operate in the way you're thinking for the RR MB - I would assume it's possible, even if they don't offer one.

Isn't it saying that reservations opens tue 17?

I just stuck my name and email down, why put it up if it wasn't available to use now, seems a bit daft if they were going to delete all the names put before the 17th.

I got the infos from this > post (http://www.redrockmicro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3344) by Brian from RedRock. I was hanging out on their forum for quite some time and they promised to reward that by opening the reservations for "insiders" before anybody else would know, on Sun Apr 15, 2007 11:59 am (see > here at the bottom of the page (http://www.redrockmicro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2950&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45))
I did not get a confirmation email as well but consider my reservations placed.

I'm in standby till i know more from the Red Motor and how it can work remotely, and how much.

Why? Redrock is a non-commital reservation, heck you don't even put any money forward. Personally I like the look of the Mattebox for the price over the follow focus but I might just pick one of those up anyway given it's so cheap, I think even Red might be hard pushed to come in cheaper :)

Hi everyone
just saw this thread, so I wanted to dash off a few answers before going to day 2 of NAB.
Reservations were first opened to customers, and now they are generally available here:
http://redrockmicro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3344
we don't have an email confirmation, but we will be sending out emails updates to everyone on the reserve list. Reservations are not commitments, do not require a down payment, and as a bonus we are giving away 5 microMatteboxes and 5 microRemotes to folks on the reserve list (random drawing) when they ship.
Cheers
Brian

Hi Brian, thanks alot for confirming, I presume that given the thread points to the same thing we've all used to register that anyone here will be somewhere behind your existing customers in the line.
Do you have any expected shipping dates?
Congratulations on some great looking products at great prices, very much appreciated.

I put in my reservation... I'm still waiting to see RED's remote focus before I buy anything of that nature. I'm definitely interested in the Micro Mattebox though. The thoughts of spending $3500 on an ARRI MB20 make me sick. My only hesitation with the MicroMattebox is it's not a swing-away model and I'm a bit unsure about the overall weight and how it will compare to ARRI and Chrosziel options.

It should be lighter than ARRI and Chrosziel because it's made of plastic and not aluminium.
I'm looking at it from the point of view that I will probably be purchasing a Zoom myself. Therefore a swing-away model isn't as necessary. If I or a customer needs to rent primes then I'll rent a swing away ARRI/Chrosziel at that point. If you are buying the Red Primes (Which I seem to recall you saying you were Jeff) then yeah it might not be the best option. That said though, I have a feeling there might be an option for a swing away or something similar in the pipeline from RedRock, perhaps I misread something but the design seems to be quite modular. You never know I suppose.

Yeah, we'll see...
With a zoom, the swing away isn't a big deal at all. I'm most likely getting the 18-50mm and it will be my primary lens (as with many others, I suspect). Of course, if the budget goes to hell between now and then, I'll just buy the Nikon adapter and use my 17-35mm as my primary lens.
I don't know if I'm buying the primes or not. A lot just depends on how the ol' budget works out by the time my number comes up. I tried to reserve a set of the primes, but the web site keeps refusing to process the two credit cards I've tried. I don't think it's a big deal since it looks like res holders get dibs on lenses and accessories anyway. I guess I'll ask Jim or others at RED in a few days when things calm down.
