When I go to the SYSTEM menu, select MONITOR, then PREVIEW and set this to Menu(DVI) I get the full camera operation menu's through the HDMI port. This is really great. Problem is from what I have been able to understand from the manual and tests I loose use of both of my HD-SDI output's and the 720p output when in this setting.

Having the full camera operation menu's through the HDMI is something I would really like but I need the use of the HD-SDI signal out as well at the same time. Is there any current way to do this or is there the possibility for this to be an option for both to work in future builds? I am currently on build 15 so maybe this is already a feature in build 16 or maybe there is some way that I have not found to do it with build 15?

Any advice or information on this from redusers or the red team would be very helpful.

Thanks
Daren

So far on B16 if you select HD-SDI it kills HDMI output.

I would like the HDMI at 10 bits 1080p, though there is a way around it with external devices.

HDMI supports now 12 bits per channel so it could be nice monitoring port.
But what version of HDMI port do we have on RED 1.2 or 1.3?

I hope they get that working soon, that is a nice function!

I do not think that we would hear from Stuart or other red employees on this until Monday. A full menu HDMI signal in combination with a working HD-SDI signal is an important feature I would really like to see so I hope that it is at least a firmware possibility and not something that is impossible due to camera hardware.

Finner, but it is easy to convert HD-SDI to HDMI and you do not need expensive or large gizmo for this?
This guys make small gizmos doing all kinds of conversions, Size 2 " x 1.5 " x 0.8"

Build 15 has the same issues for me.

When switching to Menu [DVI] I get no SDI out to certain devices like the AJA HI5.

The PVW HD-SDI and HDMI outputs are in fact the same signal routed via two different connectors. When you select 1280 x 720 (720p) both HDMI and PVW HD-SDI can output that signal at the same time. But when you select 1280 x 848 (remoted EVF menus to DVI) only the HDMI port can pass that format, the HD-SDI chipsets say "non-standard signal format" and blank their outputs.

Please write any comments to - Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Standards Committee.

I would like the HDMI at 10 bits 1080p

Both the PVW HD-SDI and the HDMI are 10 bit 4:2:2 REC 709 / REDspace outputs. If PLAYBACK = 1080p, then the signal is 1080 resolution too.

Note: The current firmware can not support 1080p outputs except in playback mode. We understand the request however, so .....

Stuart, do you know what the highest HDMI version, the current chipset used on RED is supporting?

I understand why HD-SDI chip is blanking out but why HDMI output is off when HD-SDI is running at 1080p?

No, but our HDMI output's 10 bit 4:2:2 REC 709 / REDspace video already exceeds what most monitors - consumer or professional - can accurately represent.

Its a bug, a Tenodera aridifolia we suspect, but we haven't nailed it down just yet.

So simply put then the ability to get the 1280 x 848 (full menu's showing) will always mean that there is no ability to monitor off of the HD-SDI output. (Am I correct with this statement?).

We are currently beta testing the MXO2 matrox box and am waiting on some upgrade drivers for it. When the upgraded drivers come next week I will test when the camera is in the DVI setting running BNC from the HD-SDI out on the camera to the HD-SDI input on the MXO2 and see what we get. (Or do you think this could be a waste of time Stuart? It's just the MXO2 has many of various inputs that then can change to many multiple outputs.)

It would just be very nice to be able to have the 1280 x 848 HDMI/DVI and the 1280 x 720 HD-SDI at the same time. Come on Stuart make it happen. By the way what are you doing here and not drinking a cold ALE while watching the Euro Cup?

So I will speculate that since HDMI Ver 1.2 doesn't support anything more then 8 bits and RED HDMI is already doing 10 bits it must be Ver 1.3.

It smells like one
It looks like one
Must be the one..............

Wooww, once we crash this bug the life cannot get any better than this:-)

Thanks! Stuart.

What Spain v's Italy? what talent those two teams have, shame they never use it (against each other anyway)

cannot resist, sorry:
What about Turkey vs Russia for the euro foot final game... the two countries that have most of their land in Asia ;-)

ciao,

For that reason we press thumbs for Germany vs. Spain in the end game :)

Stuart,

what about generating a 1080p signal with centred 1280x848y output if desired on HD-SDI?
Its similar to what a 1080p monitor would do anyway when showing a 720p native signal pixel by pixel. So just use the 1280x848y data and create some 1080p from it on the fly (its black extra pixels, though...).
