Today apple released Pro Applications Update 2008-02, which will upgrade to provide compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability to Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 and Compressor 3.0.3.
Is it advisable to update?
I haven't upgraded yet, although I will later today-but here are Apple's release notes. No mention of anything RED, but....

Wonder if you need the latest version of QT with this?

If you are using the L&T plugin, the next release (soon) will be dependent
on FCP 6.0.4.

When? I have a shoot next week and need to edit shortly after that.
I downloaded a build 16 clip. Installed all the RED software.
Running FCP 6.0.3 - the proxies will not play in FCP but they
will play in QuickTime?

Just a friday afternoon observation: we as the film making community are so dependent on technology, especially on new and emerging technology in our little red community, yet so fearful of it at the same time. It's an interesting paradox, trying to be on the edge yet restrained at the same time.
Take it for what it's worth, just one of those thoughts that come to you after working 2.5 weeks straight doing 11's. Have a good weekend!
