Since new problems appeared with the Birger and P+S mount which basically comes down to the fact that this mounts will not be in reach for a while here is an poll for the need of an interim solution for a RED EF Canon dumb mount.

With such a mount it would be also possible to adapt easily Nikon, Contax, Leica, M42, etc. lenses

Everybody how has interest in such a mount should give this poll a vote, so that a technician like Doug Underdahl - http://www.longvalleyequip.com/ (or who ever can do it) has the back up to produce quickly such a mount and make us an offer in short time.

ill pay 300 if its sent in two weeks.

ill pay 500 if its sent this week.

the thing is.. if i do go for this.. ill tell eric to hold off my mount till hes done making the knob. because the birger right now is almost as good as a dumb mount.

My only concern would be setting the aperture on the EF lenses on a dumb mount. But the ability to use my Nikon and Leica lenses on it would make it a good option.

steve its real easy. grab a canon body. hook up the lens to it. change aperture.. then hold down this aperture lock button (the small button under the lens release button) and while holding that, release the lens.

that way, ull get a reading... plus know what ure shooting... and set the aperture that you like. I find that way better than what birger is offering right now. atleast i know what aperture im setting to.

I am all for other solutions. But I should point out to people that this is physically impossible, without removing the collimation assembly. The facts...

52mm PL mount distance
-12mm of PL mount is removable, to front of collimation adapter
-----
40mm at front of collimation adapter
+2mm EF Bayonet thickness
-44mm EF mount Distance
-----
2mm between collimation adapter and bayonet

The screws that we use to attach the bayonets are longer than this, and this leaves no room for the locking pin mechanism. Conclusion that I draw is you can't do the mount without removing the collimation assembly. Give RED and Birger a few days to work things out.

Thank you Erik...
I could tell by looking at the assembly that there was not, or if there was, to little meat to work with. But how about a "C" mount to PL adapter?

-----
0mm

The counterbore in the center of the collimation assembly is only 1.7mm deep, and it needs to be 2.7mm deep not to mechanically interfere with the rest of the bayonet. One might reliably be able to back of the collimation assembly by 1mm... but this still leaves an insignificant amount of material.

Conclusion that I draw is you can't do the mount without removing the collimation assembly. Give RED and Birger a few days to work things out.

Thanks for this explanation – sounds reasonable to me, even I have to admit, I have little technical understanding of such things…

So the button line is: Before any EF CANON mount can come reality RED needs to decide under what kind of circumstances the adjustable back-focus ring can be removed… now I understand, Thanks.

Oh oh.. if this dump mount really works, Erik is disproved… and it took "alesniak (http://www.reduser.net/forum/member.php?u=693)" only a week...

Seems that this poll moved things a bit...

Give Erik credit, a dumb mount is considerably easier to do than a smart one!

fucking canon bastards... why do they keep stuff so secret when its already being figured out.. why dont they sdk their shit already so that people could use their lenses on different cameras.

Totally agree – and the dump mount can only be an interim solution for me…

The time of the Birger mount will come!

kmuse also offers a very nice Canon FD mount. I've shot a bunch of stuff with mine and cheap CanonFD Primes. with great results!

Jarred (http://www.reduser.net/forum/member.php?u=1): "...the Muse mount kills the camera warranty just as fast as the current Birger one does :( "

Do I understand this right that this kmuse Canon FD mount does void warranty?

If so, - TJ, did you know that when you uses this mount?

Anything that involves taking apart the camera (other than the front PL ring or the side module) voids the warranty.

We are willing to work with companies to work around these limitiations.. but to do so, these companies need to kinda tell us what is going on if they want us to check.....

Jarred, side module you are referring to, is it the one that is called adjustable part with two big screws that you have to loose a bit to make it turning for adjustment?

Side module is the big square side cover of the camera with "RED" on it that houses the side module.
