I am currently editing P_clip low res R3D proxies in FCP on a Macbook Pro (2.2 Intel/4GIGs RAM) with a Sonnet eSATA express card from a 2TB striped RAID 0 G-SPEEDeS and experiencing serious lag problems not only in FCP but playing through Quicktime. Extremely choppy if I try to playback a M_clip.

My RAID drive speed benchmarks are averaging around 95-100mb/s so there doesn't seem to be any reason for choppy playback at P_level proxy (my show length is just shy of 12min total) I have FCP set to Unlimited RT and all other of the lowest settings possible. All drivers for the eSATA card have been updated and I am running FCP 6.0.3.

Does any one have specific checklist of exact settings and workflow for a MBP/R3D RAID 0 setup? Would be extremely appreciated as it seems that at the very least I should have smooth playback from P_clips??

Thanx!!

Welcome -

First, what version of Quicktime? OS? Are you totally up-to-date with REDCODE?

Running QT 7.4.5 and OSX 10.5.3

Just updated to REDCODE v.3 in last few minutes and now FCP crashes and states that the REDCODE driver is causing it.

Just went to get the ProAppUpdate for FCP 6.0.4 and QT 7.5
Installing now. Hopefully will straighten out the crashing.

Hi Shawn,
Interestingly enough FCP 6.0.4 w/ QT 7.5 and REDCODE v.3 on OSX 10.5.3 fixed my choppy playback with P_clips but has made FCP highly unstable usually crashing within 10 min or so. Are you doing ok after your updates? What is the best way to revert back to earlier versions of REDCODE/FCP without doing a total reinstall?
