It got replaced with the red 18-50 lens. Remember... all things subject to change.

So one would assume if you had a Res for the 18-85 that it now is for the 18-50...

That MUST be so, unless you donīt want it...

I hope so too.
I'm not going to order a 18-50 until this has been cleared up.

Here's the answer:
As for the lens, the 18-50mm is NOT a replacement for the 18-85mm. However, any zoom reserve holders can transfer their reservation over to the 18-50mm. The advantages are 1) cost, the new 18-50mm is only $6500, 2) availability: this new lens is available with your Red and the 18-85 is not available any time zoom and 3) macro!! It can focus down to 8". Jarred stuck his hand in front ofthe camera and focused down to the ridges of his thumb print!! Oh yeah :-) As for me, I'll definitely be switching to this.

Here's the answer:
So why the 18-85mm is not on red.com?

I was wondering the same thing.

I'm thinking it's because they don't have a production / delivery schedule for it yet??? Other difficulties with the design? Who knows...
I'm not sure what to do in regards to lenses just yet. I have to call RED tomorrow and sort out the reservation I attempted to place on the prime set. I wanted to get a reservation on all the lens options so I can get whatever I finally decide on when my camera is ready. The prime set plus the 300mm seems to make the most sense, but might break my budget. The 18-50 lens is cool and I love the 8" close focus / macro ability... I'm hoping they will eventually sell the primes individually. If I could get the 18-50 along with an 85mm and 14mm prime (and the 300mm I've reserved), that would be just perfect.

Just to clean up loose threads, Jim reports,
The 18-85 is on a delay. All reservations can (if you choose) slide to the 18-50mm CF.
The real price for the 18-50mm is $6500.
Sorry for any confusion... lots to do in a short period with not many people.

I add my concern there too.
EDIT -- OK you beat me Chris ;-) [thanks for the post & care] but it remains just for the record.

I was told today at the booth that Camera Reservation holders wouldn't need to reserve accessories or lenses as they would have a 30 day window from the time their number gets called in which to order and pay for everything you'd want. Anyone else hear this?

I think Mike Curtis sums it up over at HDforindies.
The situation as i read it is this: Your reservation number for camera is the key where all else begins. You order whatever you need and when your camera is ready you get what you ordered (provided it is available).
This sounds fair to me even though i was 14 on the red zoom! You get the camera and you get the bits and bobs he he. That would explain why no mention to reservation holders to get in quick and order etc. Red can concentrate on getting orders from others at NAB and us reservation holders can be assured that when the camera is ready, so too will all our lenses and accessories. Civilised orderly and fair.
