Here's my question: will Red reservation holders have to rush to place an order for new gear (as I just did)?
I think the answer is: Accessories NO. New Lenses YES.... ???
________
edit:
ANSWER: provided by Mike @ hdforindies.com
"Other good news - reservation holders get priority, so don't sweat freaking out about nailing down new accessories immediately - they'll call you when your # is up and you can sort it out then - no need to panic and order - priority based on reservation # - you get all your toys at once, so don't worry."
Mike made this comment in the middle of a talk about new lenses so I think we're covered. Thanks Mike.

My q: Is the new 18-50mm zoom a replacement for the 18-85mm, if so and if people cancel --- can we move up the line?
BTW- Great idea Alex!

If it is a replacement (it looks like one to me), we still have a valid reservation for the 18-50mm. We don't have to do anything. That's how I see it...

Answer:
As for the lens, the 18-50mm is NOT a replacement for the 18-85mm. However, any zoom reserve holders can transfer their reservation over to the 18-50mm. The advantages are 1) cost, the new 18-50mm is only $6500, 2) availability: this new lens is available with your Red and the 18-85 is not available any time zoom and 3) macro!! It can focus down to 8". Jarred stuck his hand in front ofthe camera and focused down to the ridges of his thumb print!! Oh yeah :-) As for me, I'll definitely be switching to this.

Topic: Workflow
If we import REDCODE RAW into FCP (without transcoding), what "Development" settings will be applied to the clips, does the codec read the embedded camera metadata and applies the chosen LUT etc.?

One answer provided by Shawn Nelson via Jarred: The 18-50 is NOT a replacement for the 18-85, but reservation holders can transfer their reservation. Advantages to the short zoom are price, summer availability, and close focus.
Strange that the 18-85 no longer appears on the Red site (no option to buy...) We'll see.

Has anyone had the opportunity to try the camera on their shoulder. If so, how are the ergonomics with the viewfinder controls etc?

Are refunds available for new reservations and accessories?
I spoke to Bruce at red HQ today. He is left holding ship. He said that full refunds are still available for accessories and camera reservations etc.
On the question of zooms etc. i too have ordered a red zoom (number 14) I would prefer to have this new smaller zoom if the 18-85mm does not have macro. Would i mantain my number in the que for this zoom? Somehow i doubt it.
I opened an account and ordered anyway just in case.Completed all the shipping info, but at the credit card stage i moved back to add something and i could not get back into the either the shipping info or the credit card info.
When i log on to my account i get a pop up at top of page telling me i have not completed shipping details but no way to get into that area? Whats wrong?

Steve's Studio Daily report:
«RED is developing a Professional Pocket Camera – a miniature camera. Ted couldn’t give me any further details on it, but said there would be more info released in the coming weeks.»
Specs, price and delivery?

Wow. really great stuff.
I'd like to say thank you to the red team for working so hard to bring us the gear we all desire.
My first question is, using the RED DRIVE or RED RAM can you ingest footage without tying up the camera (in other words) Do you have to use the camera's built in Firewire 800 to connect to computer or do the RED DRIVES also have Firewire 800 IO? Seems simple but i'm having trouble finding the answer.
Second question:
What sort of logging fields are available through RedCine like scene, take, roll Good or NG? Or will the support for Redcode in FCP6 bring us to a place where we shouldn't even bother with Redcine?
Third Question:
Does Redcine support timecode syncing? Would this be the apropriate place to sync?

Camera doesn't have firewire. The drive has FW and usb, and will work as a normal drive.

Here's one question that I didn't have a chance to get answered:
Will the Red lenses have the ability to transmit their metadata to Red Code files like the Cooke lenses?

The Cooke press release said /i data will be available in the red lenses, so I presume they will work exactly the same and yes it ought to include the data in the RedCode files

I have one!
It's old actually. The red rails included are 15mm or 19mm? So only with the cage I can have 15mm for my S16mm and video gear, like matteboxes or follow focuses? Can I get individual acessories or only in those production packs?

They've said that all the parts that make up the RedRail/Cage combo's will be available seperately at some point. So you can buy the 15mm adapter seperately if needs be Taubkin.

Whats the specification of the fibre channel port?

couple of clarifications - Cooke's lenses will support /i tech to feed metadata to Red One CAMERA, Red's lenses - no public/official statement about /i support.
David - no guarantee that it is fibre channel, just a "high speed port"

Q: How does the magic focus assist work?
A: ?
BL I had this shown to me by Stuart English on a booth visit on Wednesday.
He enabled the function on the camera which provided a histogram in red at the bottom of the VF which ran the length of the VF. There would be peaks and troughs proportionate to how much of that part of the image was in focus.
I commented this was similar to the focus assist on the Panasonic HPX500 which he was quite surprised to hear. Although the HPX500 system consisted of 1 peak overlayed on the image on the VF.

Evin stated that the Red lenses would support /i tech while doing counter duty at NAB. Was surprised to learn this given the already excellent price point of the lenses. He could of course be mistaken or that info could of changed.
Edit: Confirmed in this thread http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=34268#post34268

Pretty sure I'm right on with this, hence the contacts and i/ logo on the CF zoom.

Ah - I stand corrected. Evin - is THAT what the four little contacts are for at base of lens? I'm no shooter...
Brook Willard

Correct, Mike - that's exactly what those contacts are.
We know they're on the 18-50mm zoom. No word on the primes or other zoom.

from another post I had:
1.Will the camera have selectable ISO and if so what range?
2. Will the cameras support speed ramping?
3. Pre-record facility?

Sun 04-22-2007. The RAW port supports 4520 x 2540 pixels at 12 bits per pixel at up to 60fps. The signal formatting used is pretty standard 10GigEthernet packets, and a high throughput DDR like device is required to record the data. Specifically Codex have committed to the development of a complimentary optical input port.
More news on this later.
Might be mistaken...just substituting Stuart's optical for fibre here, however my radar is sniffing PITA :pinch: proprietary non-standard here, going by Stuart's complimentary comment!
