We've had a good ol' whine because we keep breaking the website, especially the storeStill seems like a lot of things to come, of great anticipation is the magic focus we've all been waiting to hear about. Pictures from the tent of the actual event would be great to see too. Also any reviews of other products of interest to Red users, such as View Factor Studios or Redrock's Matte box and wireless follow focus system and more would be of interest. Doesn't seem to be much reporting being done at the moment. If anyone at NAB has anything more to add or if I've missed something out please give us lonesome buggers some more gossip!

Hasn't anyone at NAB actually asked about the magic focus assist? I thought this was possibly the longest running question every one at RedUser had!

Even a "No info available at this time" would suffice to a small degree :)

I saw the focus assist (sorta).

It wasn't advertised very much in the booth, partly due to the fact that all the cameras were early prototypes with none of the extra 'features' enabled. What I did see was a 'demo' of the focus assist feature that gave a pretty good idea how it works.

Basically, it's a waveform/histogram type display at the bottom of the screen showing the average level of 'sharpness' (focus) for the given column of pixels. I can see how it would be useful in most cases, but I'm sure there are a few times when not knowing the average sharpness of a row of pixels will be limiting (unless they plan on implementing this too).

anyone in Melbourne interested in an ownership partnership????

I would prefer to own and thoroughly learn the post-camera/post-production part of the workflow. I would love to team up with a compatible nutter who wants to own the camera end of the work flow.

We intend to start shooting our feature Oct 07 or thereabouts depending on a couple of things (including camera availability).

So ... you own your bits (camera & lenses etc) ... I own mine (hard drives, editing and post gear, computers, software etc.) .. we "borrow" according to agreed schedules .... if it doesnt work we take back our "bits"

Anyone interested?

Geoff
