Found the answer, but didn't see it in the red booth--have to try to get back in but it is a madhouse with lines still around the corner and almost wrapped around the entire, large booth.

EOS mount for the Red announced today, but red.com is being so hammered today I can't even get a server response to read the realease!

But the tidbit from Birger is here: http://www.birger.com/

(Lake Forest, Ca – April 15, 2007)

RED Digital Cinema, Inc. and Birger Engineering, Inc. announced today an agreement to develop and market a remotely controllable Canon EOS lens mount for the RED ONE Digital Cinema camera.

Stuart English, Workflow Wizard at Red Digital Cinema, commented, “This agreement allows RED customers to exploit the very large installed base of Canon EOS mount stills photography lenses, which provide excellent image quality at very affordable prices. The combination of high image quality plus remote focus and iris control from RED’s SuperGrip™ or other remote controllers, means the entry price point for 4K resolution digital imaging is dramatically lowered, opening up significant new applications.

Erik Widding, President of Birger Engineering, noted, "We’re delighted through this agreement to be able to support the many requests we’ve received from RED customers for an intelligent mount for Canon’s EOS series lenses. Working closely with the RED team, we have been able to move very quickly from product concept to working prototype units”

The prototype of the EOS mount for RED ONE will be displayed at the NAB Show, Las Vegas, April 16 – 19. Product pricing and delivery will be announced shortly.

MY DREAM COME TRUE!!!!! 20k savings on prime for me. Yes! I too missed the display, have to come back tomorrow early in the morning again.

I think it may not have been out today. At least it wasn't out when I got there. To be quite honest, I got distracted from the business of the show while I was in the booth. The Peter Jackson short was f#$king incredible. I am amazed what can be done in such a short period of time. Until this morning I thought 720P looked good. I want a 4K projector for my living room!

At Birger, we are both honored and excited to be working with Jim and company on this project. Getting ready to be able to announce this partnership did require a good deal of work; a few too many red-eyes back from LA to Boston; and a demonstration of our technology on Natasha. As you all know, Jim is a thorough guy...

In the near term, I am going to let Jim be the source for additional information. I promise there will be more soon.

Lastly, I had a nice long conversation with CVB today. He and the rest of the guys from View Factor Studios have some interesting developments... their stuff should work well with ours.

Birger,

Please tell me you're planning to do for Nikon lenses what you are doing for the canon EOS. I want to use Nikon G lenses on my Red.

Thanks, guys!

Birger started with the canon EOS mount because they already have a set up which worked with canon mount. They done work for the military hence the canon set up.

I am pretty sure it is their intention to do a nikon mount after the canon one is complete etc. The nikon mount is more difficult because of a mechanical operated pin within the lenses or something like that.

Actualy there is already iris support for those lenses built in so a "G" or silent wave motor AF/Iris support is really all that is necessary in my opinion. After all Nikon even left the screw drive off their D40.

Nikon AF lenses with electronically controlled long focus draw is all I really want.

If Birger Engineering could hint at a possible timeline for their nikon mount development, that would be great... No pressure though. :)

Heres a quote from birger, dont know if that would help:innocent:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important Nikon designators:

"D" - has digital Iris (and other) information available to the camera. Older lenses passed the capabilities of the lens back with a mechanical system. Many if not all "D" lenses still pass the infromation to the camera body mechanically as well as digitally

"G" - like a "D" lens but no mechanical ring to allow for manual iris control. Can't adjust iris without mving the lever from behind the lens mount. No mechanical iris information available for older camera bodies.

"AF" - has a mechanical linkage to the lens to allow a motor in the camera to drive the focus. The Nikon mount that we have in development will not focus these lenses. Manual focusing is possible with all of these lenses.

"AF-S" - has a motor in the lens for focus. Manual focusing is still possible with most (if not all) of the lenses without providing power.

When our Nikon mount comes out you will need to have AF-S lenses to get focus control. and D or G lenses to get iris control.

If you want to use nikon lenses in a full manual mode, before our mount is available, stay away from "G" lenses.

Hmm... So you will be able to focus AF-S, but not AF-D?
