loreo has brought out a new version of it's 3D lens. this new versoin is now faster at f/8 and can take 52mm threaded filters or wide/telephoto adapters assumedly.

they've also brought out cheap $2.50 3D viewing glasses for computer monitors AND a macro version of the 3D lens.

What exactly can you do with one of these on a RED? It wouldn't be able to do true 3D filmmaking right? (ie. Journey to The Center of The Earth 3D)

You get a fixed inter-ocular separation and a rather odd, vertical frame aspect ratio, but it is true 3D, and no doubt that is the cheapest way to try it... Have a look at their web page.

with the red in 4.5k 2.40 and this lens. you could shoot a true 3d 2.4k movie. only problem now is to light for f/8 and not being able to pull focus.

This would be fun to try, but how would manage to achieve the desired effect for quicktime playback?

it seems like there have been any number of 3D viewing methods used, ranging from very complicated (LCD-shutter goggles) to very simple (eg, nothing... just view side-by-side images crosseyed). Takes some practice, I can do it but it causes eyestrain pretty fast.
The Loreo website has some design for a cardboard glasses viewer (apparently no optics- just a simple viewer). I guess all it needs to do is hide the "wrong" image from the view of each eye.
