Thanks to all who waited way too long to see our "stuff" today.

1. Peter Jackson and his team are heros. They did an incredible job in just two days shooting. I can't think of anyone else that could have made a mini-movie in this short of time. He is a delightful person and has an extremely dedicated and talented crew. My hat is off to them.

2. All of the shooting totaled 500GB of REDCODE RAW!

3. The entire team of RED (17 people) have worked tirelessly to deliver what we promised one year ago. I am a lucky guy and appreciate their work more than words can say.

4. I am really happy for the reservation holders who believed in us.

5. We announced development of a Professional Pocket camera, 4k displays and a 4k projector program. No ETA.

6. We still have a lot of work to do. Our job will never be done. We are committed to constant improvement of our system.

7. We just found out that we cannot post the movie due to music donated by Universal. Peter and his team are going to re-score the music, then we can post.

I appreciate the loyal RED following that has built up over the last year. It has turned into great support to offset the naysayers. I live to not disappoint the REDheads.

Jim

Hi Jim and all the RED Team,

It sounds like you guys totally rocked the house today. Amazing! Hope you all have SOME time to actually relax and enjoy yourself as well.

Bravo!

P.S. If you can give us ANY clues about the market that the RED mini (or whatever it's really called) will be aimed at, it would be fantastic.

Best Wishes to you all,

I second the previous thoughts, of course. And I'd be delightful if I could know something more on this new announcement:

5. We announced development of a Professional Pocket camera, 4k displays and a 4k projector program. No ETA.
Very very interesting indeed!

Not to be an ungateful bastard... but now that Universal nixed the online distribution of the Red demo... does this mean we have to wait days or even weeks before we are able to see it here?

If you caught me and Blair this morning, you would have thought that we were on that show "amazing" race making a mad dash to the RED booth when the gates opened. We were in screening #2 (only beat by exhibitors who were already in the floor). It was absolutely INCREDIBLE. I saw it twice smack front row. I truly felt as if I was "in" the movie. No grain, pristine footage. THANK YOU JIM

500GB for a 4k short film. Thats amazing.

I asked my wife, "do you know how amazing that is?"
"No, not really."
I had to think for a moment..."Thats about the same order of magnitude of change as someone saying 'I just drove from here [maryland] to california on $50 of gasoline', this is going to entirely change the industry"
She shrugged, and went back to knitting. Chicks.

(I shouldnt be sexist, she believes in me enough to let me spend all this damn money on all this cool gear)

Congratulations Jim on everything. Congratulations to the entire red team. And I look forward to congratulating you many times to come.

One of my favourite quotes from an article I found when first researching all things RED is the following. I think its appropo to this moment.

"This company invented a product category. Perfected it. Dominated it. Defined it. Set their own standards for the industry, then went forward to exceed all their own standards leaving their so-called "competitors" in a swirling vortex of obsolescence."

Aiden Cornwell
04-16-2007, 09:22 PM
I am very excited to see RED ignore all the people who said it can't be done. I was listening to an interview done with ZOIC (Company behind VFX for Fox show DRIVE) mentioned the RED Camera and hoping to impliment it into their production line.

P.S. When are you coming out with the Red shirts, and huggies.

If you caught me and Blair this morning, you would have thought that we were on that show "amazing" race making a mad dash to the RED booth when the gates opened.

:)

Haha... I was in that dash as well. As I jogged past a competitor's exhibit, I heard one of them comment, "Where is everyone running to?"...

This is unreal. I can't wait for more information on this to verify its target. Hopefully i fit right in the RED Centre. BULLSEYE!

Great stuff RED Team.

PS. That sounds like a good slogan or similar. I want credits for that if someone uses it! :P

Just wanted to say thank you for your outstanding commitment to excellence. Your vision and amazing production team have crafted the most important digital cine system of our generation. Apple has proven to be an excellent partner in your development and its creation of the next-gen editing system that completes RED.

Kudos to RED and its families.

Without sounding like a gushing dweeb- It has to be the most amazing thing I have seen in 14 NAB's...

Honestly, I was like my 3 year old son on Christmas day... the line was long @ 9:30, so I ran over to the Apple booth and saw the 2K downconvert and hurried back to get in line... It was no bother waiting in line after a 2K teaser...

Seriously amazing stuff....

Bravo to everyone involved.

Mad props to you and your crew Jim! I glad I took a leap of faith, hey you only live once! Plus i'll be the only one in the state of Kansas to have one out of the first 1500 Reds (I think according to the map) Now if you could give a little more info on Red Jr. after NAB life will be good in the land of Ahhs!!!!:ninja:

I never would have expected in a million years what I saw in the RED 4K theater today. Hats off to Peter Jackson for being uber prepared for his Red demo. Of course, nothing will ever compare to Bad Taste, but... When you all get to see this thing... you're gonna flip. The LA screening was cool but this was f!@#$ng awesome. The RED performed so well in such a variety of real world situations. I can only describe the footage as 35mm with it's windshield wipers on for first time... I'm making arrangements to re- grain in post for certain projects. It's that clean.

Great info from day one. Jim - look at Final Cut Studio 2 page - Final Cut Studio in Action - shows Red One!!
FC works with Red files - you need a firewire 400 or 800 cable --- if you have one - that is all it takes....... if you don't have one ---- get one!!!!!

Thanks once more to all of you. Jim you and the RED Team are the heroes of NAB 2007. You are the winners. Hollywood is the next battlefield.

And one more thing.

After Peter Jackson, Timur Bekmambetov and more other directors that will come the RED ONE will establish and for sure owe a digital cinema 4K acquisition market for the next years. The RED set of 35mm primes and zoom are almost ready this year to ship. The RED already announced development of 4K projectors, 4K displays and RED mini (4K or 2K?), handheld professional camera. The RED is company with a strong vision to the digital cinema future. Congratulation.

Jim and Red Team,
Congratulations! Thank you for having the vision and courage to make this happen! Red will certainly have the best features of the film and video worlds, and none of the drawbacks, while ushering in a new way to image.
I only wish I had come out to Vegas (I had some work lined up at the beginning of this week that fell through)
Rest assured, despite the skeptics, that there are a lot of working professionals who are excited about this camera (and many are just journeymen like myself and not famous directors like Mr. Jackson)
Anyway... rambling... CAN'T WAIT TO GET MINE!
Enjoy the day, Jim.
Cheers,
Harry

As I think about what's happening in Vegas, I imagine this huge mass of people that start out in various places and flow into the NAB hall swirling around a central vortex that has pulled them in and it keeps them there, circling, simultaneously active and captivated. When the day is done the mass disperses to various places, but never too far from that central vortex. They wait, hold up in hotel rooms and release the energy they've collected at the vortex, disseminating information through this and other websites. When the sun rises, the mass is again pulled in by the vortex for another day of swirling kinetic energy and excitement. I believe as scientists study this occurance it will come to be known as the Red Phenomenon.

Jim, from those of us who have struggled for years to make high quality films without selling our souls to Hollywood, we humbly, truly thank you. You are not just an innovator, you are a force of nature.

My sincerest Congratulations to you Jim and the entire RED Team! Its been an absolute blast watching everything from our electronic front row seats. It would have been nicer in person, but I'm hopeful I'll get a chance in the future.

there ate no other words than FREAKIN AWESOME. I walked out of the theater with a grin from ear to ear and didnt stop smilling the whole day. some people must have thought i was nuts

Jim and his team have pulled off what has to be one the greatest technological achievements in the short life of digital cinema considering the price to perfomance ratio alone.

The entire red staff were very accomodating to res holders
and have indeed took care and are going to take care of each and everyone of us.
