Hey guys, I may have figured out a possible workflow for a client editing in Windows Avid but have a question about it. Can I export on my Mac via either compressor using the proxies or RedCine into an Avid codec (HD or SD uncompressed) and then have him be able to open up in Avid MC on Windows? I am pretty sure that both the Mac and PC will open up QT's that are using an Avid codec but wanted to make sure before I suggested it to the client.

Matthew,

This should answer your question:

You can do that but currently you have to use Metacheater in order to get time code into the Avid. Media Composer does not read QuickTime time code.

We have, on a number of occasions, imported directly from Proxies (via MetaCheater generated ALE) into Mac-based Avid and then used the Avid Media on Windows.

yes the QT component is cross platform. not a problem.

To clarify - that's Avid's QT codec, not the RED quicktime component. Avid media is the same across platforms.
