View Full Version : screw on filters for 50-150??
Have my 50-150!
Thought we were going to be able to use 72mm screw on filters, as you do with teh Red 18-50, with this but you can't. The front of the lens is too small and even then it doesn't look like it has the thread to take a smaller filter.
The only filter option I can work with the lens is to run a matte box.
Let me know if I'm missing something!!

50-150 doesn't take screw on filters. 18-50 will take 72mm. 300 has a filter tray at the rear which slides out and uses 43mm screw on.
Matte box solves everything.

I feel your pain, I thought I could use it without a mattebox as well but I spoke to Red on the phone several times about this lens and there is no threading so you are stuck with putting on some sort of mattebox.
I believe you can use 4.5" filters and use a clamp but by the time you do all that you might as well use a mattebox.

ahhh doh - I like the screw on option - great when you are running around as a one man band

are you sure there aren't more numbers in your serial number? like another
1 in front. it would mean I was that much closer....alas.
well if you don't care about getting points for looks, you could always buy a larger screw on and secure it to the front without the threads...not pretty but gets the job done.

Maybe some 3rd party could machine a clamp-on ring with threads for step-up rings on one side.
I have a century wide angle lens for one of my cameras with a clamp on ring and it works great.
