What optimization did you do to the codec?

Thanks, Brent.
Looking forward to using it.
Will the new build help with the playback of 3.2.1 files? (I had more playback issues with 3.2.1 last night.)

It would be really nice to have the logo smaller and in a corner that's out of the way of the image. A pretty little logo in the corner...that's what we need!

While this thread is still fresh, I just wanted to ask about the option (in future builds) of 1080psf, in addtion to 1080p.
It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice because it would open up some equipment and hardware options for those of us that already own certain gear. In my case, it would solve the issues of not being able to "digitize" through the HD-SDI port of the Matrox Axio LE.
Anyway... thanks, Brent (and Red) for all the hard work!

No, they just took the logo and put it on the bottom center of the screen.

All outputs on the RED-ONE are, and will be, true progressive. See the other threads on this subject for the background on this.

Thanks guys.
I'm also interested in the issue with the playback bug. Apart from camera shut down during playback (few times), we had the Red lcd screen turn green when the camera was connected through HDMI to Dell 2408.
We just finished a 5 day shoot on 3.2.1. No codec errors.

This camera must be getting fully developed if logo placement is high on the todo list!

Yeah, that made me laugh when I read that. :poster_stupid:
This camera is amazing! I can't stop applauding these RED dudes.
Good shit just keeps on coming and coming... It's like christmas every 7 days!
When's it going to end! (never I hope)

Not trying to pull things OT... but I've been looking for some info on the usability of this DELL MONITOR for awhile.
OMEN, can you tell me a couple of things:
1) Are you getting the full menus, histograms, and surround view that the LCD has?
2) Is the 720p Live image pixel for Pixel, or is there some stretching involved?
3) Does Build 16 1080p Playback work? Full screen?
4) Is the image quality consistent with the RED LCD/EVF?
5) Is the large size a burden to transport?
Thanks.

Just got back to hotel room, 1781 is working on short film "Coal" directed by David Rosefeld. Sound guy has been pestering me about this jam syncing the timecode so I am sure he will be happy. MOre to come soon.

Do we really need that logo during booting ?
Wouldn't a white typo saying "Initializing" in the black bottm part of the screen be enough ?
Everybody on set already knows it's a Red...

Hmm, the RED must be a good machine for guys to be whinging about startup logos.
I mean, no offense guys, but I kind of like the logo boot up. We see them all the time on the computer; Photoshop, FCP, etc and I'm sure we are used to them. I think its only QuickTime on my Mac that I have to check the Finder to see its on.
Let's see. Considering how busy the boot up time period is; checking the monitors, taping cables, and so on, it passes fast. :meh:

Yes, but with those programs you cannot do anything useful during that time. With the RED, because you can see your framing, it's a useful tool for lighting/framing.
You are thinking of when you are firing up the camera on the opening setup for a shoot day. I am thinking of when you are switching setups or switching out batteries and the DP & director are wondering why they can't have picture up on their monitor (the last two RED shoots I've been asked that by the director)
All there should be is a small text at the bottom of the screen..low enough that it's not blocking your framing any.

Trust me when I say that there are plenty of times when you need to boot up and there is not much else to do but wait and do little lighting tweaks which usually call for having a monitor up. Maybe I can take that time to go to craft services, or I could take up smoking. That would end up being a lo of trips to craft services or a lot of smoking.

Gotta agree with this. Everyone knows the camera is a RED. Besides... it's actually bad NLP. At the exact moment someone is nervous and antsy about getting the next shot up and wanting the boot time to be faster what they see is a RED logo. Bad anchor/association. I swear I should be charging for this stuff.

But its not "just" a camera, its an intelligent, file based image acquisition and playback system. So it boots ..

I know I know, I just couldn't resist. I just work with to many guys that don't get the amazing amount of stuff going on inside the camera.
Every time I boot it up I am astounded at whats going on in front of me. (when it boots that is . . . sorry couldn't resist)

You are so right! Red seems to forget that people other than camera geeks are seeing these outputs!
Nothing like stopping in the middle of shooting for a battery change and having the money people spend 90 seconds watching a "This expensive downtime that seems much longer than it really is has been brought to you by Red Digital Cinema" commercial!
And don't get me started on the big dramatic X's when you dare to dial in an incompatible speed or fill up a card. As if people aren't nervous enough about this mysterious camera already!
Red needs to begin concentrating more on how they are perceived by the non-technical decision makers.

I just came back from testing some time lapse shots at night on busy streets and I got a lot of codec errors, I was recording 4K 2:1 to a CF.
Basically the shots that worked were the ones during twilight, then after it got fully dark problems began, my guess is due to high contrast issues = codec error on time lapse?

Couldn't have said it better. Where the camera shines is when the 4k images are brought up in post and you get to see pretty images, all the people that have to wait for it on set don't get to see that side of things, so I think even the little things on set will make a big difference on how the camera is perceived.

We are quite aware of that, but there is a reality behind the technology that's being deployed to bring you these amazing images.
The system needs to boot, it won't / can't work without booting. We could go back to the way it was in Build 15 if its preferred...

OMEN, can you tell me a couple of things:
1) Are you getting the full menus, histograms, and surround view that the LCD has?
Yes, on "Menus (DVI)" output setting. Picture is slightly cropped, but nothing important, as all menus, histograms, surround view, audio meters and assists are fully visible.
Picture is also slightly stretched horizontally.
2) Is the 720p Live image pixel for Pixel, or is there some stretching involved?
It is stretched vertically to Dell's 16/10 ratio. Much more than on "menus (DVI)" setting. Also the picture is cropped and you cannot see any data. There is some small part of the surround view visible.
3) Does Build 16 1080p Playback work? Full screen?
Yep. It is also slightly stretched vertically.
4) Is the image quality consistent with the RED LCD/EVF?
Yes, depending on how you have set your monitor (Dell).
5) Is the large size a burden to transport?
That is pretty subjective. I would rather get a cheaper version Dell 248 where a lot of traveling is involved.

I just updated to 3.2.4 and afterwards lost video to my EVF. It was working just great in the previous build. Nothing has changed other than the update. I also tried the synced/fixed option to no avail.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
