View Full Version : Funky LCD behavior during hi-speed or time-lapse shots

A couple of weeks ago, I did a 90 minute long time lapse during which the LCD began showing pixels which seemed overly bright (they kept growing in number and brightness with time). I stopped rolling, unplugged everything, let it sit for a while, then tested and there were fewer stuck pixels, but still there were quite a few left, though not as bright. After a few more cycles during the next few days, the stuck pixels were gone.

Did another time lapse a couple of days ago and it started happening again. But so far, I have seen persistent stuck pixels and now some appear and disappear (seldom in one place) during hi-speed operation, which is quite annoying.

So far, this seems to happen only while rolling over- or under-cranked.

Any ideas? Bad LCD? Interference? Port or cabling issues?

Does the problem show up in the footage as well, or just on the LCD?

I know a lot of people had noise issues with long exposures, especially successive ones. The going advice is to black-balance as soon as you change your settings to time-lapse, and again once your done.

CMOS sensors build up lots of extra heat in this situation and heat causes extra noise and weird pixel anomalies, which is what this sounds like.

No, not on the footage, John. It's just on the LCD, but when you're in the middle of a prolonged time lapse shot, you never know, so you're compelled to stop and check the footage, you know? A major annoyance.

Only happens on prolonged under- or over-cranked shots. Battery or AC power alike, but it seems to be worse when shooting off the AC adapter.

Bad craziness...
