Open Call to all RED Shooters, Producers, Directors, and Projects shot on RED.

Many of you have seen the RED reel we put together a few months back, that we screened at NAB and in numerous other venues around the Globe.

I'm starting to work on the next RED reel, with the target of premiering it on the Huge Screen at IBC in Mid Sept.

If any of you would like to submit clips for consideration, I've set up a special area for this to upload H.264 QuickTimes of your R3D's. Our friends at WireDrive offer a service to the industry that allows for client review of files in a very sophisticated fashion. They have agreed to help us with a special upload area. I will put the details on this thread once the site is set up and ready (should be a few days from now)

Please feel free to send me an email alerting me that you are posting QT's there, and we will take a look, and get back in touch with you if we want to use some of the material in the upcoming reel.

Thanks

+ Ted

The WireDrive Area for posting Quicktimes for review to be included in the new Red Reel is up.

Visit this link to upload the files you want to submit:
http://redreel.wiredrive.com

log in using this info:
Username: redreel
password: upload

You can now post H.264 QuickTime Movies of the R3D footage you want RED to review for inclusion in the Reel by visiting: http://redreel.wiredrive.com

you can view a QT tour of how to use the wiredrive system here:
http://www.wiredrive.com/tours.php

specifically watch the "Uploading Files to a Project" area to learn how to upload your files.

I uploaded the H.264 of the RED Mythbusters video last night as a test, to make sure that it worked and it was as easy as the tutorial said it would be to upload - and it was.

Note that the QT movies that are posted here will be viewable by anyone that is posting files, so if you want to submit your QT's for review privately, please email me directly at ted@red.com

Thanks

For the person that just put up the first submission, the Drenthe clip - thank you! Footage looks great - can you send me your contact information via email? (it's not in the comments section, so I don't know how to get in touch with you.

Thanks

Regarding the question on how clips will be evaluated... It will be a team effort by the group at RED, just like most of our development work, etc.

Once people upload all the clips they want us to review, we will go through all the clips and vote on what should go into the latest reel. Lots of discussion and debate.

If we don't use your footage, that doesn't mean that it's not worthy by any means, it's just that we create the reel to achieve certain objectives. This time around we may be making a few versions to show off. And I already screen some full commercials and music videos at various events that are separate from the RedReel, and they are a very good thing to show. So if there are commercials, music videos, shorts, etc. that are submitted, we may ask to use them in their entirety from time to time.

And question :) If i will upload R3D file and you will like it , and also if i will send you samle of CC that i want , will you make cc for my footage .

Thanks.

We will do our best to match your color correction choices - the H.264 QT's do not give a true color representation (in my opinion) So if the color choices and grade you have on your footage is very precise we would likely want to see some Tiffs or DPX frames of the grade to match it as best we can, along with the R3D's. Color space is quite different for DCI projection than HD monitoring to be sure - so we do our best to match both and take into account all the factors.

I just wanted to thank those of you that have posted your footage on the wiredrive link. Some great stuff so far... but not much of it yet, and there is a ton of shooting going on, so if you know of people shooting RED for their feature films, commercials, TV shows etc. and they are willing to let us show some great work in the glory of 4k, please let them know we are on the hunt to make a very powerful showreel and want to see everyone's best work.

Thanks

Hello Everyone - we are starting to cut the reel now, so you will be contacted to send your R3D's to hollywood now. Note that the material you submit does not have to be 4k, we can use 3k and 2k shots to show slo-mo, etc. as well. Any speciality shots (timelapse, ramping) are also of interest to include if we get some great ones.

There is probably another 10 days or so to submit clips on wiredrive for review.

and btw - Tar, your tennis spot didn't seem to upload correctly - so I can't pull it down.

Hey Ted,

This is a very late submission, but I just uploaded a full spot titled "NaughtiGirl_700." I couldn't tell if you only wanted clips or were taking full cuts; let me know if you want elements from this.

Also, I first tried to upload a larger file but aborted the upload, but the file is showing up in the upload list anyway. I can't figure out how to delete it, so I thought I should clarify things here. It's titled "NaughtiGirl_2048" and is incomplete.

Thanks for doing this.

The new Reel is starting to take shape. If you thought the existing reel of footage was very good (which it is) wait until you see the new one.

Thanks to everyone that submitted footage. Regardless of whether your shots ended up in the Final Edit or not, we greatly appreciate the time and effort you all put into getting us shots to use. You are all a significant part of this cameras early success.

We have come a long way in a short time, and I believe this new Reel really demonstrates that. You all have a lot to be proud of with the amazing imagery you have been creating.

I look forward to screening the finished piece in many venues in the coming months.

+ Ted

Hello everyone,

I've been wondering if the IBC reel can be seen anywhere on the net?

Thanks!

I wish. But as they will not release the full version of "Crossing the Line" I doubt it.
