There's an event in my general area that begs to shot on RED. It is officially called the Big Spring (TX) International Hang Gliding Competition and I believe, serves as pretty much the World Championship event of the sport.

The 2008 Big Spring International Hang Gliding Competition will be in Big Spring from August 2 - August 9. The flight take-offs will be at the Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark daily. For additional information call theAirport at 264-2362.

Admission is free if memory serves, and there is even a time set aside for the ultra-lite towing planes to take up paying passengers.

The reason they keep holding this event in Big Spring year after year is because of the thermals that allow the participants to soar to great heights.

OMG!! I've been a hang glider pilot since 2001. I would love to shoot this! My REDs are booked for those dates.... DOH!!!

Redrunner, sounds like you would have been the perfect candidate to shoot it... from a pilot's perspective.

I'd come back with some good stuff. :weight_lift:

You'll be seeing some RED hang gliding footage from me at some point in the future. I can promise you that. :bleh:

My understanding is they will be holding this about the same time every year. Maybe you'll be able to shoot this one next year. I may even be able to shoot some then, but it won't be from x-thousand feet up:)
