I know what you think before you even read it...go to ScarletUser.com. The following post was posted at ScarletUser.com but the site that I describe below will not be a site for "Scarlet Footage" exclusively, but rather a site for "3K Footage" shot by the Red One, Epic, and of course Scarlet...
There has been some talk about having a site such as redrelay.net for the Scarlet footage, but Jim prefers us not using Red's trademarked names for something like this so...
I am wanting to have a website such as fotosearch.com but a little different.
(1) I want the footage to be royalty free
(2) Free of charge to upload and download
(3) Have it to where all you have to do is make an account, and boom you're in.
I bought a domain name "3Kstock.com" but I do not know how to make a site to where you can click on a video file; have a few thumbnails to preview; and click download.
If anyone knows how to do this kind of stuff, could you let me know by PM'ing me?
Also, if you guys would be interested in being a part of a "3Kstock.com" community, please express you ideas, comments, or questions.
Thanks.
I realize 3K .r3d files are GB's in size, meaning bandwith and server space must be a lot to keep up with the demand, but if people could upload .r3d files that are compressed to .zip or upload torrent files.
For previewing the footage the one who uploads the footage would need to provide a thumbnail or a series of thumbnails so as to preview the stock video without using even more bandwidth.
Just thinking...:glare:

Joseph, You can't zip R3D files - not in any significant way, they have the sh*t compressed out of them already... :)

If you are serious, be careful! I had PS3 when it first came out and couldn't get it sold. Timing is everything and how people can find you. I learned my lesson. Everything is a risk for sure. Just dont get to greedy, unless your Gordon Gekko.:greedy: lol

Well, I don`t think its a bad idea, but I see it only working for Scarlet. I dont mean to sound elitist, but I dont see people buying Red`s or worst Epics, and then posting footage for "free"... even when there`s other pages that pays for "pro Footage"... Is just a matter of recovering your investment.
Its like having Janusz Kaminski lighting the video for your birthday party.
Just to make clear it clear, I`m not saying that there wont be Pro scarlet footage, Im just saying that red and epic are pro tools, and scarlet will be a very attractive and affordable prosumer camera.

Doesn't RED RELAY already provide this service?
Joseph, it's an OK idea, there will always be people looking to share footage for various reasons, it's not always about selling stock. But there are already resources in place to do this, you're essentially asking about jumping into a market that's already saturated.
If you're serious about such a community, your best plan of attack is to set up a legitimate business entity (mostly for your protection) and build your community site and tools and then approach everyone, market it. Figure out how to pay for it -- ad revenue, etc..
If you want to go more for the professional stock footage approach, be prepared to spend lots of money getting started. People are not going to place stock with a no-name site with no content. You will need to outright buy up lots of stock to build a library that will attract customers and more contributing members.
If you're serious, I wish you luck.
