Did anyone else notice that "Red Digital Cinema" was on the maps at NAB if you knew where to look, but on the list of companies there was no mention of them. So if you walked up to one of the map kiosks and looked for RED it looked like they weren't there. I thought they'd be in the Central Hall with the acquisition stuff like Arri, Sachtler, Dalsa, etc. I was looking on the map, but wasn't looking at the map for the post section. Like I said, they weren't listed on the index of companies and the info booth people at two booths told me they must not be at NAB this year. I sat down and grabbed a drink, looked over the maps carefully and saw that the booth was near the Apple exhibit with the post companies. Of course, I could have just followed the crowd. ;-)
I was in line about an hour to see the footage (well worth the wait) and heard several people making derogatory comments as they walked by about how RED is "all hype." The little camera that could is apparently making a lot of people edgy.
I was walking around with a DSLR all day. The Panasonic people went a little crazy when I walked into their booth. "No photos! Absolutely no photos!" Meanwhile the RED people actually helped me take photos of their gear. The only time Mr. Jannard threatened to break my arms and legs was in the theater and I was more than happy to cap my lens and watch the film. I just wanted to take a photo of him introducing it. ;-)
Good work, folks. You've made a hell of an impact. You've also got the best EVF I've ever seen. I came to NAB just to see the RED and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
